I was wondering if anyone found a way to get the incredible to go lower than the default 11% lowest setting...sometimes at night even at this lowest setting it is still too bright and I wish it could go a bit lower...also is there anyway to get the 4 home/menu lights to turn off? I really wish there was a widget for this as those too can be distracting when trying to watch a video at night...

Hello, yes I've tried these apps but still none of them let you go under the default lowest setting of the phone...the phone is capable of going dimmer as demonstrated in the night clock mode but for whatever reason there is a restriction in place to not want to allow it during normal use. Also I've found nothing that will turn the home lights off when the phone is in a dark area

Get Dazzle. Add the brightness app. When you want it really, really dark, tap the brightness and change it to "Dimmest" or "lowest", whatever it says.

Again I will say that Dazzle is not the answer. Dazzle will not lower the screen brightness any lower than the factory controls of the incredible will. The phone IS capable of being dimmer as displayed during the 'night time' clock mode, however for some reason the phone wont go this low with any method I've tried for dimming.

On a side note besides this issue, the 4 buttons on the bottom of the phone are constantly lit up at night and while viewing videos they can be distracting, I have found no way to force these lights to shut off while in the darkness.

This is caused by an app running in the background preventing the phone from going to sleep completely. I would install System Panel and close any apps that you aren't using and see if they turn off. If they don't, end all non-critical apps and they should turn off.

As for the brightness, I know what you mean. I think it's an application setting which doesn't actually dim the screen, it just displays whites as grays to appear darker. Aldiko does something very similar.
