Using Sprint network instead of wifi out of spite

I don't use wifi because I can't get the EVO to log into my WAP protected system. The WAP password is 37 characters long, and for some reason the EVO just refuses to work with it. I set up another wireless router with a shorter password and it worked fine, but I'm not going to change my access code just for the EVO. It can stay on 3G and 4G.

As soon as carriers figure out to simply charge the 5% of the user base their share of the bandwidth usage people will stop crying over $10 bucks a month. I am still amazed people will buy a $500 phone at roughly $80 per month and then act like $10 more for unlimited data is like Sprint asked for their first born child.

Those who think they are "sticking it to the man.." it's no wonder the U.S. is full of fat slobs, if the buffet Is $10 bucks we better eat till we puke and then go back again.

Ignorance at it's finest, alive and well in America.

I don't really understand the point. Use 3g/data to stick it to the "man"? Seems like if everyone used the Sprint data...you'd be going slower. I prefer to use whatever is fastest...that's why I bought the phone. I wanted speed...so if wifi is available...that's what gets used. This phone screams on wifi! Why slow it down...just so you can pretend you're sticking it to them? I mean, you can buy a $300 dollar phone, but you can't handle paying $.33 a day?

I do the same thing but only because the POS EVO 4G will NOT connect to my Belkin N router no matter what I do. I've tried using WPA, WPA2, WEP, no encryption etc. ALL of these methods result in it not even trying to connect.

I've tried to connect to two other wireless encrypted networks, both of which work fine.

I finally said screw it, and I just use Sprint network all the time.

I'm using my WiFi but won't be soon. The evo has been in my hands since launch day. I used my laptop Sunday for 15 minutes or so for the first time since I got this phone. I am always on the go and just dont need home internet now. Seeing the data some use, I'm pretty light there too.

Its more about need than greed for me.

I usually flip flop. I have a poor internet connection due to living out in the boonies. So when im downloading off steam and my connection is slooooooow ill throw the 3g which is comparable/faster than my at home connection.

Also, once 4g hits Minnesota im going to tether the crap out of my house since the speeds will be 3x-4x faster than my connection.

I do the same thing, though not for spite :p

I get 4 semicircles of 4g coverage in my house, so that's fast enough for me to do everything. Since the only jack in our house that is good enough for the cable modem is way in the back, every computer is on Wi-Fi (easier than stringing CAT5 everywhere). So, to ease up on the bandwidth, I just keep my phone on 4G.

I typically use wifi when at home for longer periods because its faster and presumably preserves battery over having the 4g connection open. 3g is for suckers if something faster is available.

I dont use wifi when traveling though, especially not if 4g is available. Unsecure connections are also for suckers.

I think I've said it before, I don't do anything out of spite especially if it doesn't do anything special for me. Can't see 3G ever being faster than my wifi at home so no deal there. On the road, I'll use 3G even when wireless is available though because I'm not a fan of open wifi networks on my personal devices.

Way to go, hope you still think its funny when they have to double/tripple the fee, or follow ATT and limit all data because of people like you.

I'm sorry but what are you talking about? This is not malicious. The phone is supposed to be connected to the Sprint network 100% of the time. That is how it works and there should be no expectation otherwise.

If you are using Wifi part of the time then you are not making full use of a service that you have already payed for!

I said the same thing before I got my Evo, but I've found that I use WiFi 90% of the time because it is much faster. I don't really steam music, but I am considering it when I get really disgusted with my sat radio.

Looked at my bill from last month, and even with work email, I only used 240mb. Much lower than I expected.

This doesn't include tethering, unless they are paying for the hotspot, which in most cases (on here) I doubt. So no, they are not paying for this service, (if not paying for hotspot) as computers can and will suck up 10x more bandwidth than any phone. Tethering a rooted device is ok here and there I think, as long as your not abusing it, but, using it to replace your home connections without paying the tethering charge is clearly abuse, and this is exactly the reason why carriers and manufacters are making it harder to root, and the dreaded bandwidth caps come into play.

Needless to say, not paying for tethering, and tethering anyway through root, is against tos, and they have the right to kill your contract, and charge you the etf for violation of said ToS.

LOL...I do the same thing man. When im at work I download a bunch of podcasts (40mbs+) per each podcast...and sometimes ill even download some movies, I just let my phone sit all day at work on the charger and let it d/l off of sprint network.

And its for the same reason you said...just out of spite...if they wanna charge 10 bucks extra a month, thats fine. Im gonna use the hell outta your 3g.
