App to silence SMS/MMS & EMAIL notifications when sleeping but phone ringer is active

I used to have a BB Tour. I could set it up to turn off notifications for email and text messages when I had the phone plugged in. The phone would still ring.

I am looking for an app for my HTC Incredible that I could do basically the same thing. I would like to set the phone up so when I'm sleeping the notifications for SMS/MMS and EMAIL messages are muted, but the ringer for the phone is still active.

Does anyone know of such an app or setting to do this? Thanks!

Take a look at Tasker, available in the Market with the standard 24-hour return window, or off-Market with a 14-day trial at:

Tasker for Android

What you're looking for is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Tasker can do.

Once it's installed you have to tell Tasker what you want it to do, and under what conditions you want it to do it, for example:

  1. When plugged in, silence notifications but leave ringer alone
  2. When in the car dock, enable bluetooth
  3. When at home, turn on Wifi
  4. When at work, turn off ringer/notifications and enable vibrate, or
  5. Silence ringer/notifications duing meetings on your calendar

What you would do in Tasker is setup an "AC Power" context that would set the notification volume to zero. When AC Power is disconnected, Tasker will automatically return the notification volume to its previous level, or a predetermined level if you choose. You could optionally set it up to do this only at night, so that daytime charging would not silence the notifications.

Timeriffic. UI's not the greatest, but it's free. It's only time based profiles, however. I have mine set up so that I receive phone calls but no alerts while I"m asleep, but it'll turn everything back up when it's time to get up.

If you just need that basic functionailty, Timeriffic will save you ~$7. If you want more robust profiling (ie: location, charge status, etc), I agree that Tasker would fit the bill.
