Hello everyone,

Im the IT guy at my job in nyc and i myself have an evo and have had no issues with it whatsoever. However one of my users in the office recently picked up a droid and handed in his word issued blackberry. The issue im having is that after setting up the exchange account on his droid, once he signs out of outlook and shuts his computer down he doesnt receive any emails. I thought he was crazy until i actually saw it do it myself. I tried resetting the phone, re-doing his exchange settings. Nothing works...i even delected the blackberry account he had on bes as well. Exchange works fine on my evo (granted i have sense) and the only thing i havent done is restart my mail server which i dont have intentions on doing. Anyone have any thoughts on this? i cant find anything on the net for this specific issue and the next thing im going to try is touchdown for exchange and see if that helps.

That's really weird - I've never heard of anything like that before. Outlook is nothing more than a separate email client that connects to the Exchange server, so as long as the server is running, users should be able to connect via ActiveSync or OWA regardless of whether an Outlook client is active. I just can't see how it would be possible for Outlook to influence the connectivity of other clients.

At the risk of oversimplifying, are you sure the user is accessing Exchange via the regular ActiveSync protocol, and not using some hybrid third-party mail app? For example, Verizon used to have something like that - you installed a piece of software on your desktop that interfaced with Outlook to forward email changes to a VZW server, which then relayed them to your regular POP email. Of course, this could only work if your PC, Outlook, and the special Outlook plug-in were all running, as well as having a working internet connection.

Personally, I use TouchDown on my Droid against a hosted Exchange server (SherWeb), and it makes absolutely no difference whether Outlook is running on my desktop or not...

Good luck - I'll be interested to hear the final outcome!
