Does anyone else get annoyed by the bottom button backlights going out too quickly? Is there anyway to lengthen the time on that? It really is annoying to be surfing in the dark and not being able to see the menu button. Wish it was on the same timing as the main screen.

Actually? Yah, I do get annoyed by this. I know the buttons are there, but it causes me to be less "accurate' when trying to hit one of them. It would be nice if there was an option to make the lights stay on longer.

I find this somewhat annoying also, I wish there was more customizability with the settings on this phone...I like Verizon but not when it says Verizon on my phone all the time

I haven't found this phone to be overly branded. It says Verizon a couple of times on the hardware, but in neither place is it red, so it is very inconspicuous. Also, in the phone itself, I haven't seen it anywhere except on the lock screen and then at the top of the notification window (aside from the Verizon Apps tab in the market, but that's no big deal).

If you have auto brightness on then they will stay lit as long as you are in a dark enough place and will unlight themselves when you get into a lighted environment.

sometimes it seems to 'go to sleep' before I'm done using it and I have that setting on auto.

coming from windows mobile, which is a complete prehistoric POS, i am kind of surprised that it's so hard to change things like different volumes and backlight timeouts. Seems there is no setting anyplace for some things or if there is one I can't find it. THe above buttons is just one example.

I can't find either were to quickly adjust the volume of just notifications.

Yes this annoyed me and believe I just figured it out. The power control widget is necessary to make this work.

To Load the Power Control Widget:
*Press menu>Add>Widgets>Power Control
You must be on one of your three home screens and that screen must have one row with no icons.

The screen brightness button is on the far right of the power control widget.
*Press it repeatedly to cycle through several settings. The bottom button bar's backlight will go out after 5 seconds.
*Quick-Pressing the camera button will re-light the button bar for 5 seconds.
*When the brightness button is at its most dim setting, LONG-Press the screen brightness button until the Droid vibrates, the button bar's backlight is now on solid. You can cycle through the different brightness levels and it will stay lit.
*When the button bar is in "always-on" mode, quick press the camera button and the button bar will go dark in 5 seconds again.

When the screen timeout kicks in and you wake the phone, the backlit buttons will go out again. To start the backlight back up, just cycle through the backlight levels and it should come back on in continuous mode.

Seems to me a smart programmer could make some money with an app that gave us more control over this. Or at least control that was visible rather than hidden with key press sequences.

I wish I could turn them off completely so that I would not be annoyed by seeing the button back lights from the screen.

I know most people in the various threads on this subject say that it is normal and that most Droids have this issue, but it annoys me.
