So, I've been reading up on a few threads about chargers. Frankly, I'm tired of taking my usb cable with me everywhere. I had a bluetooth that had just about the same wall style plug. I tried the cable that came with my phone with that wall charger and had some less than desirable results. My question is, do we have to have OEM for chargers and cables? I did see the post about the $6.00 car charger on amazon. That looks killer, but would it definitely work?

I think any micro-usb should be fine. Some of the micro-USB connectors will not fit perfectly in the physical opening (they will fit perfectly in the actual USB socket)on the top of the phone, but you can shave some of the molded rubber off the cord with a knife to slim it down a bit.

Those of us who had the 1st iphone are used to the routine... our homes and cars are littered with Stereo-mini-jack plugs that have been shaved down to fit the headphone jack on the phone.

I use a BlackBerry charger at home and a generic car charger that has an additional USB port. Both work just fine. In fact, the BB charger has a mini USB plug but I found an adapter for it. I hate the cable that came with the phone. It's too stiff.

The did have one issue when I tried using a generic wall charger with a USB port and the cable that came with the phone. It thought it was plugged into a computer and started the MTP application. It still charged, but I couldn't do anything with the phone.

Other than the USB cable + Wall plug you got with your phone, I don't really believe there is an OEM charger for our phones per se...

At home, I currently use a Blackberry wall charger (no detachable USB cord). Everything works fine, and the phone goes straight into charging mode (it doesn't think it's being hooked up to a PC). The only thing I've done is take a razor blade and shave the rubber shoulder of the MicroUSB plug to get it to seat firmly in the Captivate. Takes all of 10 seconds...

I ordered a couple charging setups from MonoPrice to use at work.
Power Adapter:
For only $3.50 each when QTY 50+ purchased - AC Power Adapter 5.0V/1000mA For HDFury item - Black | Power Adapters

USB to MicroUSB Cable:
For only $0.97 each when QTY 50+ purchased - USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core - (Gold Plated) - 3ft | USB 2.0 Cables - Micro-B Type

I actually ordered the 15ft long USB cable instead of the 3ft. I had to shave the MicroUSB plug again to make it fit, but no big deal. There is a difference in the MonoPrice setup vs. my Blackberry charger though. When my phone is plugged into MonoPrice setup, it thinks it is hooked up to a PC, so I have the option to mount sdcard, Kies, etc. The phone still charges fast, but that's the only quirk. It doesn't effect functionality for me, so I don't care.

For the most straight forward setup, I would just find and buy the Blackberry MicroUSB wall charger.
