Help Froyo 3G problems

I've been in contact with an HTC senior tech who has been reading this thread and another over at verizon's forums and collecting information to get this issue resolved.

Okay:

Issues I have or have had:

1) Battery Life shorter - Impossible to use Google Maps on long trips now, even when plugged in. Battery discharging faster than phone can be charged.

2) Lost/intermittent 3G
(UPDATE: After factory reset problem has not returned.)

3) Location services and the updating of widgets that use location services not updating properly.
(UPDATE: As of 6:30 AM this morning location services have returned, for the most part...Takes about 5 refreshes for location to appear.)

4) After factory reset, can't connect to PC because Verizon media manager is trying to install drivers that got nuked in reset. (I fixed it by turning off the optical drive setting -- look in troubleshooting thread under "media manager molestation")

5) Flash 10.1 stutters

6) Not a big deal -- But I HATE how you CAN'T play music while you are using the camcorder now. Made the cutest video of my daughter dancing to Lady GaGa...Guess that's gone now?!!?

Does turning airplane mode on then off again do anything for you?

You and I are having slightly different problems - my 3G disappears while my phone is still on - but all I need to do is toggle airplane mode, which is much faster than rebooting.

Airplane mode did not work on my original DInc, but does work on my replacement DInc. I've since given up though and went back to 2.1. Eclair is stable, it works for me and all my programs run on it. Plus, I can play Angry Birds with no issues. What more can you ask for?

Well this is strange. I've lost 3G signal (3rd time today), so I'm trying to select Airplane Mode.... It won't let me!?!?!

When I select Airplane Mode, the option grays out for a few seconds (like normal while it's turning off the antennae), but when the option becomes available again the box is not checked?

I just did powered off then on again which fixed it.... for now.

Damn, I really don't want to have to get a refurb'ed phone.

4. have you left your phone alone on the usb cable for a couple of minutes to see if it will mount on the hd? i know after the update (i used RUU) it takes my phone a couple of minutes to mount. it also changed the drive name. it used to be f: for phone and g: for sd. now theyre g: and h: because of that verizon mobile crap. try leaving your phone alone for a couple of minutes and see if that helps it to mount.

5. have you updated your flash? there was a new flash update after froyo came out. the latest version is
10.1.92.8 which you can get here:
com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk

4) I got rid of that problem doing this:

Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password 000000 (that's 6 zeros)
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

Now it works like it did before the update!

5) Thanks for the link! Are they going to officially update Flash in the Market?

UPDATE: 3g disappeared again! I was fine for a week. This time toggling airplane mode froze the phone. The phone would not register airplane mode in notification bar, but listed it in the phone menu when you go to turn it off. I restarted the phone and it said airplane mode. I turned off airplane mode and 3g returned...BUT...Swype really screws up if you restart your phone in airplane mode -- said phone ID didn't match my account. I restarted the phone once more and reinstalled swype; now everything's fine. I really wish someone would acknowledge this problem!

Updated to 2.2 using the update.zip method. Ever since:

Been having some strange problems like mentioned in this thread. 3G randomly disappearing and the like.

Tonight my phone battery died. I am 100% sure 3G was working at most 5 minutes before it died.

I plugged it into a charger, and turned it on.

1st boot:
5 minutes after it booted up, 3G still had not connected. I tried the airplane mode trick (enable airplane mode, then disable airplane mode), as this had previously worked for me once when 3G went out randomly. When I enabled airplane mode (by pressing and holding the power button for the phone options menu, and then selecting airplane mode), it stumbled for a moment, and then appeared to have enabled it, and the phone options menu disappeared. However, no airplane mode icon in the notifications bar. I waited 5 minutes, and nothing changed. Pressed and held the power button again and the phone options menu indicated that it was in airplane mode, and the option was grayed out. However, I could still make phone calls. I rebooted.

2nd boot:
Came up in airplane mode. But Mobile Defense crashed on boot. I turned off airplane mode, and 3G came back. But since my mobile defense program crashed, I rebooted.

3rd boot:
When it booted this time, it had no 3G again. I waited for 5 minutes and still no 3G. Tried the airplane mode thing again, and it "hung" when putting it into airplane mode again. Just as before. Rebooted.

4th boot:
Came up in airplane mode. Mobile Defense crashed again. Turned off Airplane mode. 3G came back. But, again, since mobile defense crashed, i just chose to reboot.

5th boot.
No 3G. Waited 5 minutes. Still no 3G. Avoided airplane mode this time. rebooted.

6th boot.
3G! All worked! But I saw a trend of every-other-boot and I got curious. So I rebooted.

7th boot.
No 3G after boot. Waited 5 minutes. Still no 3G. Made a short phone call (thinking maybe this would trigger something?) Waited. Still no 3G. Rebooted again.

8th boot.
3G works great!

I clearly see a trend here of every other boot, 3G doesn't work.

Is this confirmed across the board, or only on some phones?

Anyone find a common trend between affected phones?

It doesn't happen to be something unique to a location, does it? I'm in the Phoenix metro area. (Tempe)

P.S. Hearing "droid" 8 times got rather annoying. +1 vote for making it a silent boot process again.

The problem of Mobile Defense crashing in Airplane mode on reboot is a known issue for the application. It definately happened in 2.1. Happened to both my wife and I a couple of months ago on a flght to Vegas.

For those of you having trouble with the airplane mode trick...

I have found that doing it by the widget or by holding the power button both give issues for some reason. It seems like it gets stuck in a half and half twilight zone or something. I go Menu->Settings->Wireless & Networks and manually toggle it from there. Works perfectly every time.

I'm on the 2.15 radio too. Updated manually and on SkyRaider 3.1 RC3 with KingxKlick #4 kernel.

For those of you having 3G issues, I'm curious if it's related to just one particular version of the radio. What version of the radio are you using? You can check in Settings >> About phone >> Software information >> Baseband version.

2.15.00.07.28 for me.

I'll try this next time I run into the problem. Seems silly to have a workaround for a workaround. :)

I was running the latest radio and had intermittent 3G issues. I went with the 2.05 radio and had the problem too. Now I'm using the 2.07 radio. So far today I've had no problems. I had the 1.0 radio and had no issues at all. Of course the camera and camcorder didn't work right with SkyRaider, but 3G did. For me it seems that different radios are better than others. Some will have the issue every other time. Others have intermittent issues. The one I'm using now doesn't seem to have it at all.

Powered up this morning after my Incredible's first full night of charging... ready to go... and under Wireless & networks menu, Mobile Networks is checked but the entry (including the phrase "turning on...") is grayed out. It appears I cannot connect to internet with 3G anymore - was working fine last night.
This is my second day of ownership and can't figure out how to get online... please help.

I've had the "no mobile data (3G or 1X)" issue since I did the factory reset after the OTA. I talked to about 3 verizon techs with no help and they are sending me a replacement. Well, this was not a satisfactory solution for me since I get the feeling this is not a hardware issue (especially after reading this thread) so I started looking at some of the advance settings (the ones that pop up after dialing ##778). Under security in advanced settings there are 3 spots where I changed a 10 digit number to my 10 digit phone number and after it rebooted I managed to get mobile data again. Got this idea off of one of the verizon incredible forum. I imagine there is more that needs to be changed in there but I have no idea what. Anybody have experience with these advanced settings and know what needs to be set to what?
