Help Movies on Evo ?

I have this program...but I don't see where you see EVO in a dropdown menu. There's an option for Android but that defaults to the Hero at a resolution of 480x320. Also, what file type are you converting to?
Sorry for some reason I thought it actually said EVO on it but it doesn't.You go to devices select Android then you go down to the profile drop down menu and select "Video for Android (H.264, 800x480, 24 fps) ! It's AVS Video Converter version 7.0.1.449.

Rockplayer will not play 720p video nor will it output to the hdmi port.

Properly formated mp4 files played in the stock gallery player will do both. There are links in this thread to both Handbrake and MeGUI specs for assembling the files correctly. Either one with an EVO preset file will consistantly turn out files that play perfectly. Either one still requires a ripper if the source you are using is DVD or Bluray to remove the DRM.

Personally, I use MeGUI as it also does perfect files for my Tivo (which has a different preferred file format) Have a preset for each and its pretty much load the file and one click encode for either device. Spend 5 minutes and plug in the file requirements to build your presets for the EVO and you are done with it.
720p videos work on Rockplayer. I've tried it.

I've been using DVD Decrypter to rip my DVDs and Handbrake to convert them for my iPod Touch for a while and it works flawlessly. Thanks for the link above about modifying handbrake for the EVO. Been wanting to put some movies on the EVO but haven't tried it yet.

For those of you trying to rip your encrypted DVDs, search for DVD Decrypter. The program is no longer being developed, but the final version is still out there and easy to find. Of course, you can only legally rip DVDs that you own.

Oh, almost forgot. Above method is totally free. Can't beat that!

I havent seen this mentioned anywhere yet in this thread but once you get the video on your computer I use a free tool called "Format Factory" which makes it very simple to take any video format and make it work on your phone. All you do is drop your media files into the window and then select from one of their templates and a few minutes later your good to go!

This looks promising. I'm going to try the drag and drop method first, and then this. Thanks

I just put some video on my EVO for the first time. The video I put on there was ripped from a DVD with Handbreak using the Apple TV settings (a .m4v file), and it actually worked pretty well except for the fact that I got letterboxing on the sides and the picture was stretched vertically. I've played this video on my computer and on my TV (streamed through an Apple TV) and it never looked like this. Any ideas why?

Handbrake is garbage when it comes to recoding mp4 videos. Personally, I download HQ mp4 videos then use the program XMedia Recode (portable). This program has a specific HTC EVO 4G setting that I use and tweak depending on the video. I usually leave the frame rate the same, bit rate is the same, scale it down to the proper 800x480, and keep the audio the same (but you can increase the db with the program). I recently put Memento and Gladiator on my phone and they look crystal clear. The site is in German, but it is legit and Free.

Download Vuze.

It's actually a torrent client but it will detect Android phones. Just click the phone on the left sidebar then drag 'n drop your video. Vuze will convert it and transfer it to your phone automatically.

I did this with a 720P HD video and both the quality and file size came out just fine.

Yeah, I downloaded Vuze couple weeks ago to get every audio book of Star Wars ever made, and found that awesome feature of converting and love it. Now I'm addicted to Vuze for all the cool things I have found. A crap ton of tv shows I want to watch again and some for the first time, a book that I've been meaning to buy, and tons of comics too - which of course I can put on my EVO's SD card and read at work or on the go! Now I have the entire collection of Nightwing to pour though. lol

What IP settings do I use?

I'm not sure what you mean. If you're just trying to convert files and put them on your phone then just start it up, plug it in then click Android in the left bar.

From there you can drag and drop from any Explorer folder to convert and copy.

If you're trying to use P2P then it should be good to go. The initial setup should detect your connection speed and set everything up for you. Not gonna get into actually downloading video because that can cross the line of legal discussion here.

I just wanted to let everyone know of the drag 'n drop conversion and copy because it's a fairly new feature and most people don't know about it yet. It's really nice not having to find optimal settings and just letting Vuze do the work.

Just use DVDfab. It will do blurays as well. I have several blurays at 30Gigs a piece on my hardrive. Takes a special movie player to play the though. Looks phenominal on my 63 inch samsung. Makes phenominal copies to my phone. Too bad the EVo won't do over 2G movies. You can brake them up if you are so inclined.

Not true.

Guess it depends on your version of 'PLAY'

Yes rockplayer will open a 720p video and put a picture on the screen and audio out the headphone jack. In that sense it 'plays' The video studders BADLY and the audio breaks up.

The same file (mp4) plays fine with the built in gallery player. Remuxing into a mkv container results in the same studdering playback.

Rockplayer does play SD resolution (480i) xvids fine.

I just tried converting Iron Man 2 with DVD Fab and it told me it was copy protected. Magic DVD converted it just fine.

I have 2 movies on my evo. I downloaded them from my laptop and with a USB cable dragged the file from movies/video to the folder on the evo. Downloading onto laptop is harder than transfering to phone. can't remember which free downloading site I used, but there are several out there. I do have handbrake on my laptop. movies come in fine, sound is good. at first all I got was sound but no movie but then they must have sent an update because now I have the whole movie in good quality. go figure.

I use Handbrake exclusively for ripping DVD's (non Blu Ray) on my Mac. Have copied over 500 commercial DVD's from my library and Handbrake has only failed a few times due to copy protection. Any of these movies can be played on the EVO. I use the Apple TV format in the Toggle Presets section, select MP4 File Format, select H.264 Video Codec, Quality 700 MB (choose whatever you desire), Destination File (you decide). No other settings need to be altered. It takes my computer an hour or so to produce a high quality 700 MB video file that I can view on either my Mac, iPad (my GF's), Apple TV, or my EVO. It's easy enough that a Caveman can do it. I've used Handbrake for years and it still ROCKS and IT IS FREE.
