Root Cognition is AWESOME

Running from 8 in the mourning till now 1:17 pm, all ive been doing is listening to podcasts that I downloaded and my batterys at 35%. Is that bad?

It's hard to say, there are SOOOO many variables when it comes to battery life.

But I have noticed since running cog that my battery life has increased tremendously.

I can go two days of moderate use, wifi on, a few widgets updating, some games a few youtube vids, I am impressed with that.

Running the stock rom I could bairly go 8 hours of MILD use on 1 charge.

What I do know is the biggest power hog is the screen, I usually always keep it at minimun brightness.

If you are having battery life issues try to do a little investigating and figue out what is gobbling up your juice. I think with all the bloatware gone has made a big difference for me. All those worthless apps that keep re-opening themselves every few minuts were a juice hog.

I've been on the Cog 2.2 5.5 now since Sat. Works well for the most part. Fast. No more HW resets. GPS was actually rock solid on 2.1 and now less so. Battery draining faster it seems as well. Will try battery calibrate on that.

Having trouble pairing my BT headset though. Anyone else see that issue? It seems to be something to do with REMOTE SIM MODE. When that activates, the headset unpairs. I can get it deactivated.

Well, I just drove home and tested a few things with my recently flashed 5.5. The bluetooth seems fine. I did have to manually pair it the first time, but reconnects automatically now. GPS is the same it was on b3. A good quick lock while standing still but worthless for navigation.

I havent had a whole lot of time to test the battery but so far, I took it off the charger about 8am yesterday. Last night when I went to bed it was like 78% woke up it was about 72%. When I flashed it this morning it was at 64%, now at 330pm im at 38% and I have messed with it alot today before during and after the flash, well see what happens after a full charge tonight. That was with Wifi always on, beautiful widgets, email, twitter, and longitude updating every hour.

BTW, if you are having issues with the Cog. betas let DG know so he/they can check it out and fix it in future releases.

BTW, Beta 6 is live today. Is anyone running it yet? How different is it than 5.5? I just flashed 5.5 yesterday and dont want to flash again already unless it is really worth it.

Damn it. I thought I was making a joke when I said beta 6 would be out. I just spent a few hours putting beta 5 on my phone last weekend.

So far beta 5 has been great for me. The issue I have seem is something where the "phone" system process seems to crash so I get a dialog saying that it needs to be forced closed but I keep getting the pop up over and over. Most of the time I got that doing something stupid (restoring system settings from an eclair backup using titanium backup). Once I quit doing that I only got it once. Rebooting the phone seemed to clear it, haven't seen it since.

Other then that beta 5 has been great.

I was running Cognitin v2.2 beta 5.5 for the last couple of days. I saw beta 6 was available today. copied it to my internal sd. rebooted following the instructions and now I'm stuck with the at&t logo and can't get in to
Clockwork recovery mode!
Help, I'm stuck!!!

I've never done it that way and I was under the impression that CW didnt work on 2.2 yet, unless they just came up with something.

I would recommend using Odin to either flash the new rom or use it to flash back to 2.1, then use CW to flash up to beta6. Ive done it this way with beta, beta3 and beta 5.5 and it worked flawlessly each time.

Check out this thread, it has links and instructions for using the Odin method if you are unfamiliar with it.

The FAQ is pretty clear that you can't do that. You can only use clockwork upgrade from 2.1. The reason for this is that the recovery env installed on the 2.2 cognition requires signed build and clockwork won't work under it.

I'm pretty new at this but I think you are going to need to use Odin to either flash it back to 2.1 or you can flash it directly to cog 2.2 Beta6.

One thing you can try is that I read a post from designgears in the XDA cognition thread is that you might be able to force it to boot into recovery mode using ADB. The cognition rom has USB debugging turned on by default.Try connecting to your phone with ADB.

"If you don't have 3 button, the button combos wont work, but this is why I enabled usb debugging by default

During the AT&T screen you can access the phone via adb shell like so;

adb reboot download

or

adb reboot recovery"

It doesn't look like there is much:

For those who don't feel like upgrading to beta6 from 5-5.5, I offer these alternatives...

Changelog:
v2.2 BETA5.5 - v2.2 BETA6 (10/12/2010)

manuelzkv's Kernel w/2e Recovery

You can get it at:

Rom Manager has returned

Download it from Market.

Flash.sh and supporting files removed, no longer needed!

Leave 'em if you've got 'em... no harm.

TouchWiz30Launcher xml edits, You will notice what is changed! Small but awesome!

I'm curious about this, but I use and like ADW.

No icons on home screen, only stock dock icons.
Removed Moxier World, fun while it lasted
Moved pre-installed apps back to /data/app, again...
New Wallpaper

---- Done stealing content from XDA ----

The big thing is that we should be able to use clockwork recover for future upgrades. The rest of it sounded like changes to touchwiz an I don't remember what that looks like now :)

I'd like to just add this. I loaded the 2.2 leak on Friday and this weekend was horrible. Exchange email was seriously broken among other issues. I decided to go back to my old 2.1 stock(ish) version until I read this thread. So far I'm very happy with this Cognition version of 2.2. Email works great (among other things). Very nice!!

I just flashed 2.2b6 last night, went smooth as can be. Removed Voodoo lag, copied over cogxxxx.zip, clock work boot, install done!

I also bought the pro version of TiBu as the free version requires user intervention for every app that has to be restored (for me, that was like 250+ clicks of 'install', followed by 'done'). Well worth $6.11 :)

The phone is back to exactly the way it was - all configs, email, syncs, wallpaper, LP up and running, etc., but of course with 2.2. It's running great without the lag fix, everything seems smoother, love the task management now, and I installed Chrome-to-Phone which is pretty cool.

I knew it was too good to last, I've been using Cog for about a week and the GPS was much improved, but no good for Nav. Well just yesterday, it completely died again. I sat it on the table on my pourch today, a sunny day, and ran the test mode for nearly 45 minuts without a lock. Google maps, nav, latitude and my tracks confirm this, none get a lock... Ill whait for the official Froyo before I cast full judgement, but I'm really starting to think the GPS on these are permanatly doomed.. especially with the way uncle Sammy as been acting about it lately. Im still loving Cog tho.
