Verizon Insurance Plan

Your insurance is through Verizon? If so, the rep that told you the insurance deductible is only $50 isn't up to date on the policy. The deductible is up to $79 for the Droid and I think all or at least most other smart phones as well.

The $5.99/mo plan does NOT cover water damage. It covers anything like dropping, sitting on or any kind of accidental damage. If you want to be covered against water damage like brushing your teeth and dropping ur phone in the sink then you must pay $7.99/mo.

Its a "Personal Articles" policy through State Farm. I'm sure most other major insurance companies offer similar policies.

Yeah... which is why you'd say you lost it if water damage wasn't covered.

I wonder if AmEx's "extended warranty" they offer on many of their cards would cover this. I was recently credited back the purchase price on a Garmin GPS that died about 1.5 years after I bought it (Garmin's warranty expires after a year, like the Droid). Between that type of coverage, homeowners/renters insurance, and "upgrade" pricing after 1-year for primary lines on a familyshare account, there's little argument left for buying extra insurance for $6-9/month, especially considering the $90 deductible. I bet in a year's time, you'd be able to take your 12*$6+$90 = $162 price and come pretty close to finding a used droid for that amount on craigslist or ebay.

I think you're mistaken on that. The $8 plan is just the $6 plan with the extended warranty added. Any water damage would be covered under the "Wireless Phone Protection"part of the plan which is the same for either the $6 or $8 plans.

anyways, im fairly certain it a market to market issue. all VZ markets might use different insurance do to region. so all terms may not be the same, but may be similar.

Awesome. 'll have to call my insurance company and see if they can help me out.

The insurance protects if the phone is lost stolen or damaged, including liquid.

I talked to two people, one yesterday and one today that both told me that water damage wasn't covered.... Who knows lol I'm calling state farm in the morning.

Same thing in FL.

Square Trade Warranty might be an option since State Farm is not available...
Square Trade has a special package for cell phones.
2 years $77 plus tax
includes
basic coverage - any electrical/mechanical failure (no deductible)
accidental failure - drops, spills ($50 deductible)
100% parts and labor
$399 coverage limit

For every *accidental* claim, upon approval, there is a $50 deductible.

Must send in purchase receipt. (Email or fax)

If it cannot be repaired, they will issue payment of $399 - $50 deductible = $349. A replacement Droid will cost about $550 to $600.

Does not cover theft, loss, negligent use. Negligent use - throwing phone or inappropriate use, etc.

Anyone know of a better warranty option? This sure is a lot cheaper than Verizon's insurance, but it doesn't cover as much.
