Battery life - post update - strange but true

so i did the factory reset and put a different battery in.. i'm down 26% after almost 4 hours, so that would mean i am now getting 14-15 hours with light usage... that's an improvement on the 11 hour life i was getting, but it's still not satisfactory... considering i got 36 hours on light use before.

oh well.. 14-15 hours isn't that bad, but it's not that great either.

You may want to consider trying the 2G only setting to see if the phone seeking a 3G signal is eating up your battery reserve. As I mentioned earlier, I now have a shortcut (made using the AnyCut app) on my home screen for this purpose. I noticed a substantial improvement but I'm in a fringe 3G area at my home.

i don't even hae a data plan at the moment. when my prepaid plan is over, im switching over to att for the $10 unlimited data plan.

the phone is sure acting weird.. i've had it unplugged since 9 (3 hours) and it's only gone down 4%.. so it looks like the phone somehow fixed itself and is now getting good battery life. (yesterday, by this time, i had 85% battery life).

If you don't have a data plan then that's an even better reason to switch to GSM only - I'm sure you will see an improvement.

Thx for the AnyCut app info - have you been able to create a shortcut that directly goes to the "Network Mode" screen (where you choose between GSM & WCDMA modes) or are you just using the provided shortcut option to get to the "Mobile network settings" screen (one step away)?

Thanks

Simon

Yes, one step away is as close as I could get.

it's been about 6 hours since my phone's been unplugged.. no wifi on, no 3g.. light use, and i'm still at 89%. the battery life improved before i turned on GSM mode only... took a day after full factory reset to get thie power efficiency. i guess my issues are resolved, and the phone can last a full day with regular use. i'm happy now. now i just need the gps to work, for when i get my 3g.

I've been following this thread with interest, and was just about ready to do a factory reset. I had been getting crappy battery life but, during that period post-OTA update, I was swapping out batteries that I charged in a wall charger: the OEM, a Samsung-branded battery bought later, and a clearly deficient unbranded battery that was an eBay Hong Kong special.

I was losing 30 percent of a fresh battery overnight with the phone sitting idle, and swapping batteries at least twice a day.

For the past few days, however, I went back to charging the phone overnight, with the phone switched off and the OEM battery installed. The results have been impressive.

I switched the phone on about 8 a.m. today; it's now almost 2:30. It's set to G2 only. I've made and received a few calls, checked email every now and then, snapped a photo and emailed it to a friend, and watched a half-hour video (sitcom transferred from TiVo, recoded via VideoRedo and dragged to the SD card) during lunch break.

I'm now at 74 percent. I can live with that.

Ok.. So I have been having serious battery drain issues since OTA update.. Did factory reset 2 days ago.. Reinstalled only paid apps.. Last night charged to 100% before I went to bed.. Sync off wifi on.. This morning when I woke up (7 hours later) I was at 46%. During the day under normal use I get battery warnings at 3:00 pm.. Going to tmobile today to try to raise hell, but according to the t mobile forums the vibrant is on order due to warranty returns..

This is my first android device, I don't know what you guys mean by loading with Odin or exactly how to reset to pre update modem.. If someone could post a walk through, it would be very helpful to me and all the newb lurkers looking for answers.. I don't really expect I will get much help or an exchange at tmobile.

One poster on the tmobile forum had an interesting thought about it though.. He suggested that the reason samsung isn't releasing any phones is because they've already started loading newly manufactured units with froyo and is waiting for the OTA update to release any of these to the public.

I had some strange battery drain right after the update. Oddly my apartment is half 3g half 2g and work used to bounce all over the. Home is still half and half but work is a solid 3g now and it was draining like crazy the 1st couple of days.

But as of this week it seems to be back to normal. Phone has been unplugged since 7 and its now 10:15 and my battery is at 96% This is with some usage. Took a few pictures of people in their costumes and up loaded 2 to Facebook as well as checking emails and twitter.

Maybe the modem just needs a few days to get its stride.

Got new battery and new sim card from tmobile.. Doubt the battery will help, but sim card may help with signal strength? I didn't get a new card when I got the vibrant and the guy said it's a different card for 3g.. Is it? Pages seem to load quicker now.. I was getting 3g before but had a lot of dropped calls and hanging page loads..

Will see if I get better performance.

I used the old SIM card out of my Blackberry Pearl (which was not 3G enabled phone) in my Vibrant. I have had no issues with it re signal strengh or with 3G networks - pages load faster on 3G than 2G so I guess my SIM is working OK.

I guess I am in need of a factory reset as well. I have tried all that I can find to conserve battery life on this Vibrant but the results are minimal at best using SetCPU, Process Manager and Battery Manager.
I start my day at 3:30 am with full charge. By 4:30 I'm at 96% with no use at all. After about 45 minutes of on screen time including emails, tweets and 15 minutes of angry birds, I'm looking at 40% by 8:30 am. With only half my work day done I'm already reaching for the charger. I've never had a device that killed a battery this bad. Rooted/Stock with J16 update.
