The Official Did You Get 2.2 Thread

The two times I tried to update they appeared early in the morning after leaving the phone on all night. I usually turn it off overnight. I haven't seen any popups for a week or so.

Indeed. I read on a few forums that the update increases the CPU speed to 500 something Mhz, up from 300 something mhz. So that's probably the reason.

I've also heard that Froyo brings the processor up to its full speed. OEM 1.6 is underclocked to 328mhz, down from the hardware's capability for 528mhz. Why they did that I will never know...

On my oem 1.6, rooted, I use setcpu to set it 245 - 528 on demand, and my battery life is BETTER than straight 328. When I ran CM6 I had massive battery drain too, so bad that the phone would get really hot when it was idling. That's why I gave up on that rom.

Whatever the battery drain is, it's not processor speed. It's some obnoxious background process.

I didn't do a factory reset.... I'm not to worried about it.

You should. Most people who had problems after update only did until they did a factory reset.

Overall I would never expect 2.2 to be as fast as 1.6. It's a bigger OS and more of a memory hog, and our hardware is just so limited in the first place. I'll give it a try when it comes through with root and overclock, but I'm not expecting it to be as fast as I'm used to.

Still waiting in Boston...and Halloween is tomorrow...if this was April, I would have assumed it was a April Fools joke...but now...not so funny.

::with soft white long bunny ears standing straight up in disbelief::

Cat whiskers and and puppy paws, they have moved the date to December 15th. It's possible there were to many problems that needed to be resolved

The update will be sent to customers using the original myTouch 3G in staggered waves beginning October 13 and we anticipate all customers will receive it by December 15.

It's only "confirmed" in the sense that I read it in a post over at XDA, so no, it has not been confirmed. To me that sounds like the most logical theory I've heard yet, so I'm going with that for now.

I wish I'd brought some celery for you.

::a small lil smirk forms upon his bunny face:: That would have been nice, perhaps next time.

::hops into his bunny hole::

I saw on the T-Mobile website that the update will be going out to Mytouch 3G's between October 13th through the 31. Here it is 10/30 at 6:15pm and I have no update, no text... WTF!!! Bleh:mad:

Just do the update yourself. I did, it was pretty painless... the only thing was i was having a problem with was with the naming the files. they say rename the files update.zip thats not exactly correct... you rename the file Update that is it.... it takes about 10 minutes to download the 2 files and complete the whole process... Im very happy I did it! I think the phone will now hold me over til im ready for a new 2 yr aggreement.... by the time I might be saying peace to tmobile and hoppin on over to at n t... well see.....

Uhmmm, if you don't have windows set to SHOW EXTENSIONS of filenames, then you actually renamed it to update.zip.zip. Does that make sense? When you renamed it to just "update," the .zip part was already there, but hidden.

I'm guessing you're not super technical with computers?

I just did it too. pretty good so far

I'll probably do this soon myself.

Where did everyone get the update so they could do it manually?

::pokes his head out of his warm humble bunny hole, then hops out in one swift motion:: TADA!

Here is the link for manual update

Octavian - what are you running now? I've heard that the new radio frees up 15mb of ram for the mytouch? Have you heard about this?

::hops over speedily and nimble. Clears his throat::

::bows slightly:: A good day My Phateless.

I am currently running the manual OTA update Android 2.2.1, Build FRG83B
Witht the Android Market Update to Version 2.09

::places his fuzzy up to his chin as he ponders::

Nope I have not seen anything about the free up of 15 megs. I checked my available memory and its just about 26 megs. This is with some apss that run in the background but I can say testify to this, before the 2.2.1 update it seemed to running with the same memory available so if 2.2.1 puts aside some RAM for itself then some it freed up.

And let us not forget about the celery this time ::winks::
