You'll need to make the folders from your computer or a downloadable file explorer on your phone such as Astro (the only one I've tried, but there are others.) IMO, it's much easier to do it from the computer, so here goes -
Plug your phone into the computer via USB. Pull down the notification area and make sure your SD Card is mounted or connected in mass storage mode or whatever Samsung calls it. Now on your comp open "My computer", and find the drive letter (I think it's labeled Removable storage device) associated with the phone. Open that drive, right click in a blank area, and select New then Folder. Name it as mentioned above. Now drag and drop or cut and paste the MP3 into the new folder. Lastly, in the lower right of your comp's task bar hit "Safely Remove Hardware", disconnect your phone and you're done.

Hope this helps. If it doesn't, post back and I'll see if I can explain it better.

Hi again eyebeam I have got it on the phone as I said but I cannot get into the notification tones folder on the phone, as the phone does not give you the option to install your own file which the other two do ! thats what my problem is now. When you pick the notification tones folder I cannot get the file into it !!
thanks.

Hmmm... I'm not sure we're understanding each other here. Let's see if I've got this right -

- You connected your phone to the computer and successfully created 3 individual new folders on the SD Card called - notifications, alarms & ringtones.

- The MP3 you want to use is also already on the SD Card.

- You now can't get the MP3 into the folder from the phone.

Ok, I think what the issue is is that you're trying to move the MP3 around from the phone without the aid of a file explorer (one of these is not standard on the phone) downloaded. How are you seeing the MP3 on your phone? Just in the various select ringtone options and/or the music player? Anyway, the only way to move files around on the SD card from the phone is with a 3rd party app, such as Astro or File Explorer.

Have you tried moving the MP3 into the new "notifications" folder while you're still connected to the computer (I find this the easiest way)? You say it wont let you, right? This leads me to believe that you may be connected to the computer in charging only mode, although, if this is true, I don't know how you could create new folders. Try this: On your phone, go to "Settings" > "Connect to PC" > and change the "Default connection type" to "Disc drive" (this is for the Hero, but it should be similar on your phone.)

Let's see if any of this helps...

Edit: If not, then maybe you should try an app such as Ringdroid out. I've never used it, so I can't help with it's functions, but I have seen it recommended often.

Hi there eyebeam I will try my best to explain I have loaded the ringtone with the pc onto my phone and in the ringtone folder on the phone I have it in my incoming call folder and also it's in the video call ringtone folder, Now then in the text tones called notification tones I now wont to put the ringtone but there is now provision to load a ringtone of your own. On the pc there are two sound folders on the sd card digital and simple niether can be accessed when in the notification tones; so if that is clear to you thats is a far as I can go sorry about my lack of knowlage but I am a bit of a plank with these things
