Root warranty repair

My rooted heroes screen has started having the unresponsive bottom of screen problem :(
Stupid question I know - but if I send it back for repair, will they touch it as it's been rooted & running a custom ROM?
If not, can I un-root & revert to the stock ROM?

This is the digitiser. If it is still under warranty, you can send it off. If not, you can buy them on ebay and get them fitted bya phone shop (as I did).

If you want to return to stock, you need a Hero RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility).

Was it branded originally? All RUU's for the Hero are here:

Index of /shipped/Hero/

Basically if you have a sense rom, connect to HTC Sync and run the RUU from your PC. If it is AOSP, connect in fastboot and run from PC.

Sometimes an RUU will only run if the software version of android is lower than the RUU's. If yours is not, you may need to find a really old custom rom to flash first.

Hope this helps.

Not afaik.... the RUU update overwrites everything on the device including the recovery image so to all intents and purposes it's factory-fresh. The update itself is unlikely to be queried as it's an obvious troubleshooting step.

The only remaining giveaway would be the presence of an -ext partition on the microSD card (if you'd used an Apps2SD-enabled ROM) or other root-related apps/files on the card, and that's easily solved by simply omitting to return the card with the handset! ;)
