If You Could Go Back In Time Would You Buy The Captivate Again?

Probably not. I would either go for the HTC Aria, or switch providers. However, switching providers isn't really an option for me at the moment, because I have other people on my plan. I am under the impression, though, that an HTC phone would be of higher quality than a Samsung phone. It's a slap in the face that Samsung has so many unaddressed issues with the Galaxy S series, and they just released a new phone with Google. We can see that their priorities lie in selling the phones as opposed to keeping the customers happy. This is what separates Apple from mediocre companies like Samsung. They should just stick with TVs and other various electronics and leave phone making to companies like Motorola and HTC. I wouldn't want to go back to the iPhone after experiencing Android, but I would like a different Android-powered device. Unfortunately, AT&T's options are limited.

Aria sucks the only thing it has going for it is the slightly better build quality and an led light. Other than that not.even in the same league as a captivate

It's funny...I've been such a huge advocate for the Captivate, and been preaching time and again to give Samsung time to fix things...but, even I can grow weary of waiting.

When a better Android phone comes out on AT&T (like say...the HTC Desire HD?) ... I will more than likely sell off my Captivate. It's not just one thing that bugs me...it's a lot of little things. Perhaps I expect too much from the phone (or Samsung, or AT&T) ... but at the amount I paid, I expect it to work, with very little additional effort necessary from me.

That being said, I'm spoiled now by the screen, and can't use anything with less. Thank you, Samsung, for giving me a superiority complex!

While the captivate is an attractive phone and certainly does a damn good job of being a good phone, it still lacks.

My biggest problem with the phone is it lags alot. I don't know if this is because of the way I recently customized the screens or what, but it has become obnoxiously slow. It's almost as bad as my old iphone 3g.

Second, Samsung support.... those two words shouldn't be in the same sentence. I was expecting updates for this phone and still nothing.

Third, obviously is the hit or miss gps.

While I admit i love the ability to do so much with this phone, in terms of speed, my brothers iphone 4 hands down blows my captivate out of the water, and that is what is bothering me the most right now. It has become so unresponsive that you have to wait 30-40 seconds just to toggle the wifi on and off. It's pretty frustrating considering this is supposed to be one of the fastest processors.

Would I buy this phone again? If the lag wasn't so obvious then yes.

I will say this all phones will always be lacking something so for what thats worth the captivate is a great phone

I love this phone when it works right, but I'm really tired of the problems I've had in less than a month of owning it. I'm on my 2nd Captivate. The first was completely bricked after 3 weeks when I tried the OTA update. My replacement has the GPS problems. What irritates me is that 50% of the time the GPS works flawlessly, accurate to a few feet. Other time, it wont lock at all. The first phone had perfect GPS. Now I'm getting lag problems on the 2nd one. I love Android, but If I could do it all over I would have bought an Iphone. I will take something that works, but can't be customized, over this flaky phone any day.

Yes I would. I'm with ATT and the only other choice was the HTC Aria that was like a toy. The screen on the Captivate was the selling point for me. I held it next to an iPhone 4 and there was no comparison. I don't need to hear how the iPhone has a higher resolution. I don't care. I rooted my phone and flashed the latest Cognition rom so waiting for any update is a non issue with me. Love the Captivate.

Hate to say it because I've always been at odds with my captivate but I went and picked up a streak and used it for one day before taking it back.

I thought I knew what lag was but I had no idea. Now that I've used the AMOLED screen I can't look at anything else.

I would be pretty satisfied if the gps would just start working. The streak had me excited about that.

There are so many ways to make your phone really nice or really messed up. To say that the Captivate is junk because it lags or is slow or the battery life is awful or whatever else people are complaining about is just silly. My daughters friend is one those people that complains about her Captivate being slow, the battery sux and the phone "gets hung up". I looked at it and you wouldn't believe the animated widgets and live wallpaper she is running. She has everything turned on to sync all the time and the brightness is turned up all the way. It's true that I've rooted mine and flashed a custom rom but even when it was stock 2.1 I had no problems except maybe using too much battery. I solved that problem by turning down the screen brightness and adjusting when and what syncs. The battery life was no worse than the iPhone I had but with the Captivate I can pop in a new battery and keep on going. Try that with an iPhone. I think the people that are complaining should first look at their own phone before bashing Samsung or the Captivate.

I have both the Aria and the Captivate. Each is running the same launcher (Launcherpro), the same widgets, uses the same (non-live) wallpaper, same sync settings, and all the same apps.

The Aria flies compared to the painfully laggy Captivate.
