Help Any problems with the new update?

I fully respect your opinion but cannot follow your logic - here's why:

It's a cell phone. I dunno 'bout you or your family, but I've seen lost, stolen, dropped on pavement, dropped into sink and my personal favorite - BAAAZZZptth! - phone dies, SD card fried, the whole bit.

My warranty replacement comes without the benefit of the previous configuration.

If you have some moral objection to resetting, it's ok if I never get that one - it's your phone.

But not paying $5 to get a full backup of a cell phone - for the reasons above - indicates to me a kinda Russian Roulette thinking. It's not if you'll need to replace a cell phone some day, it's when.

With feature phones - we were stuck.

With smartphones, you have a choice.

And I don't know your feelings on this, but I don't mind paying a few bucks (like only 5) against the day that something goes really south.

It takes hours for me to completely customize my phone and get everything just so.

That time's worth more than $5 to me.

PS - IF you've gotten some cache/data areas tangled up, no future update will fix this, and your phone's performance will degrade over time. And with a backup, the whole reset becomes a painless 5 or so minutes of your time.

And - it lets you know if it's an actual defect requiring HTC/Sprint help or something simpler.

And going round and round with HTC/Sprint is also time-consuming, btw.

So here is my backup software question. I'm running stock and all of my contacts are google contacts so their saved in the cloud.

Whatever is considered the best backup software for stock phones and I perform a backup and reset phone then restore how much configuration\reapplying personal settings will I be doing?

I know each person will be different, but I'm thinking about reapplying notification sounds to contacts and apps, logins to various apps, etc, etc...

Will a restore essentially get me back to as if I never did a reset? Sorry if I hijacked this post.

People ring in on different backup products and what backs up what in this thread - http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-support-troubleshooting/141369-how-fix-froyo.html

I recall that MyBackup Pro was highly favored but a few others were mentioned there.

Thanks Earlymon, my logic is if all my contacts are on Google and I can essentially backup whatever is on my SDcard to my computer and I don't have a ridiculous amount of apps; just wanting to know the benefit of a backup if it doesn't get me back to where it was prior to reset.

If not it would be difficult to remember all the places I've tweeked and fine tuned to get me where I'm at now, using the same EVO since it's release date. My only reason not wanting to reset if my EVO is not totally fubared.

I have a couple of questions about the update..

1. Is this a Sprint, Android or HTC update (I assume android)

2. Do we assume someone out there responsible for this update is monitoring forums like this for the "bugs" that are being reported...

3. Do we assume there will be a 'fix" of said bugs sometime in the really near future

4. How do you avoid the update until this happens? (so far i have not seen the update offered to me...on my EVO)

5. Should I assume that you astute folks here will indicate when the bug-fixes happen so i can update my phone then?

thanks
btw i am like vsantiago, all my contacts are on the google cloud and i have few tweaks and less than 40 apps, most of which i can rememeber...but still would rather avoid the hard reset if possible.

Just noticed one more little bug in the update.

Since I updated on Monday. My incoming mail is not syncing with my 2003 Exchange Server. Its been working perfect until the update since I got the phone. I can still send. But I get a "Sync Protocol Error" on the receive side.

Just deleted the Active Sync account and reinstalled. Seems to be ok again.

I love these HTC updates with Bloatware and all sorts of fun issues.
No Email, I am in Estonia, its 10 hours off, but I have new games and blockbuster. Seems like the battery life is a little worse as well.

Some body needs to do a little beta with these updatesd on a few hundred users before they release.

It did something to my stock News widget. It changed the size to this little tiny box. Below is a picture. I did a long press to show the space that the widget is taking, and as you can see it is taking up the whole screen as if it was actually the regular size, but its not showing the widget full sized. Both skins of the widget have this issue.

The stock android mail app no longer looks at the server to see if a email was deleted from it. If I get an email on the phone and then delete it form my computer, it stays on the phone now until I delete it there. Was never like that before. I tried unchecking and rechecking the delete from server option, but it didn't help.

I'm wondering what everyone's opinion is on the NEED and BENEFIT of this update?? With a little searching, one can load Swype into their unrooted phone or be lucky enough to have the official beta in which case the beta is BETTER than the Swype version currently installed on the latest OTA (so I've heard). Then there seems to be a bunch of Sprint crAPPs that are updated and just a few new things.

Anyone out their either RUNNING to install this update or, if they have already installed, SO SO SO HAPPY at some sort of feature or performance improvement or problem fix??

THANKS!!

I just tried installing the Swype beta on my Evo, but it gave the message that there is no beta version available for the Evo because Swype already comes with the OTA update.

I guess that's our only way to get Swype now.

I just received the update yesterday, when completed receives a message "Google service stopped working" foreclosed. I shut phone down and restarted. When it came up services were restored. Seems to have better response over all. The only problem I have noticed my Facebook widget is not updating and fb is not syncing to my people. I've checked account sync and I have fb and fb HTC sense. Fb HTC I can sync and fb I can't. Before I had only fb sync. Any suggestions.

Installed the update on xmas. Very dissatisfied, how do you downgrade? Streamfurious or any other online listening streaming source does not work on 3g or 4g! I heard it only works on wifi. Anyone know of a work around? Spend lots of time in vehicle and enjoy listening to internet radio. Just got the motorola roadster! I love this thing as it connects to your phone via bluetooth and transmits all audio on any FM frequency! Any help or recomendations appreciated! I want my streamfurious back!

You wouldn't happen to have the old LED add-on widget would you? (Probably not, you said stock, but I had to ask - that's known to cause issues.)

HAHA, no. But glad you asked. I used to have the LED light before the Sprint update. Everything is completely stock at the moment...Speaking of which, I called Sprint and complained their update killed my camera flash--they're telling me they will be releasing an update within the next 2 to 3 months to patch the bugs from this recent update...

That's just completely unacceptable to me.
