Bedside Application for Android

So my guess is the motorola dock is preventing the screen from turning off. I unchecked the keep screen on setting on the phone and in bedside. Has to be something with the dock... Anyone else with a motodroid tried this with any sucess? I could just be missing something.

Thanks again,

Oh I also tried the dock without power..and the same result the phone stayed on. Wonder if their is a dock app...

I tried it with just the power cord, and it would lock. I then killed all the apps besides bedside and put it in the dock and it wouldn't power down/lock. However if I hit my lock key it does lock. Very frustrating... haha.

This is too weird, it shouldn't be like that. Back when in november when the Droid came out some guy emailed me and help me test all these scenarios and it worked properly. Are you on a custom/rooted firmware? Or just the default one the phone comes with?

Also, try docking the phone without opening Bedside and see if that locks the phone, I think this problem might not be related to Bedside, that will prove it.

Try this, go get "Log Collector" from the market. Then dock your phone, undock it, open Log Collector and send me the logs to velazcod+android@gmail.com. I'll take a look at the logs and try to figure what's going on.

Thanks for your patience.

I tried without bedside and it won't lock either (standard motorola clock). I don't believe it is a problem with your app. I mainly wanted to see if anyone had a solution. I will get the log collector and send you the logs when I try it again. I'll shut everything down again and just run the OS and bedside. Send the log for that? I have the standard firmware. Maybe I should see if their is an update.

Oh I see, no just send me the log of you docking and undocking, that's it, that way I can see what processes are being run when you dock the phone and such.

For the current version, go to Phone's Settings -> About, and post the Firmware Version and the Build Number.

I feel like other people have to have this issue as well... Does anyone else have a Droid that they can test this with? I want the screen to time out...not stay on in the dock. I don't want to have to hit the the lock button. Although its not really a big deal. Just seems crazy to me that it won't time out.

I just tweeted about it, will post responses.

Well the appears to be and issue when the dock is running off ac power. It won't turn the screen off...however on usb power it will... it's crazy. Anyway. Thanks for the help at some point I'll figure something out. I sent you the log btw.

Thanks,

Yeah, got your log, the worst of all is I couldn't find anything out of place in your log, everything looks clean to me.

I have the same problem.

This is the weirdest thing I've found on an Android device. I'm getting a Moto Droid soon. If you guys want to try, I think a factory reset would allow you to fix this, probably, one thing is for sure, this problem is not related to Bedside, I checked and re-checked all the code that keeps the screen on (which is only 1-2 lines), if it is I must be dumb and I will retire from programming :p

I have exactly the same issue with Milestone.

I am on froyo, and just downloaded this app. I Love the clock, but I still get phone calls, and the trackball still lights up with sms.

Hi,

If you want to avoid phone calls go into Bedside's preferences, and uncheck the option that says "Allow Calls".

As for the trackball light, it seems there's no way to turn that off. The only way would be by using "LEDs Hack" (which I developed as well), but you need to have a rooted phone.

If you do have a rooted phone and "LEDs Hack" works for you, Bedside can be integrated with it. Open Bedside's preferences, Menu -> Advanced, and check the option that says "Turn off LEDs".

Enjoy,

I bought and installed Bedside lastnight. I was excited to finally find a clock that would light up when I bumped it or touched it, and then go back off. At least that's what I thought I found. I guess the room where I tested it wasn't dim enough, but when I went to bed in a totally dark room, I found that the screen still glows a little. Nothing is readable on it, but it's producing light. Uggh... that's exactly what I *didn't* want.

So I'm hoping someone can tell me a way that I can have the following:

1) Time will be shown briefly if the phone is bumped or touched
2) Screen is *completely* off through the night

This is for a Motorola Droid.

Also, I noticed the flashlight doesn't turn on the camera LED. It makes a sound like it's turning it on or doing something, but it never comes on.

Thanks anyone.

I know I have already replied your email but I will put a reply here as well just so that everyone knows what's going on.

1) The screen cannot go completely off because that would make the phone go to sleep and the sensors will go off, so there wil be no way for Bedside to detect when the phone is touched.

2) What the built-in screensaver does is that it removes everything from the screen and dims it to the lowest brightness, however, the display found in motorola phones (LCD display) use a backlight and it still emits lots of light even at the dimmest setting. Other phones with an AMOLED display, like the Samsung Fascinate and Nexus S, do not use a backlight so when the screen is black it is really black, so the built-in screensaver works great.

One solution for you is to enable the "Auto-unlock" feature in the Extra preferences, and disable the "Keep screen on" option, that way the screen turns off completely, leaving Bedside open, and then you just press the power button and the screen will turn back on without the lock screen (auto-unlock), I know it is a little tedious for some people but it is one way to go around it if your phone doesn't have an AMOLED display.

Enjoy.

I bought bedside for my Samsung Charge. First of all, it's a fantastic app. Thank you for developing it!

I recently got the desk cradle with the extra battery but the stock software is horrible! Thankfully Bedside does a great job at night, but it would be great if it went into a 'daytime dock' mode based around the time settings you have in the app. I use my dock during the day and have it plugged in next to my bed at night. Specifically if you could raise the background (wallpaper) to full brightness and maybe display a weather app widget during the day.

If there's another one of your fine apps that works during the daytime on the dock and would do what I'm talking about, I'll buy it too!

Hmm .. maybe this is what I'm missing. I just purchased and installed this today on a rooted Droid 3. So far, it's great!!! I was hoping to find a way so that an app like this could run all the time ... start up automatically when the phone is powered up, and kick in any time the phone 'goes to sleep'. Sounds like that wouldn't really be a good idea anyway .. given the phone .. and battery issues??
