The story is here...

iPhone User? 90% Chance You’re On The Latest OS. Android User? 0.4% Chance

I don't care about most of the article, except for the part where the author essentially accuses Samsung of withholding updates to get you to buy new phones.

A pro-droid article countered with this...

Don’t Believe Everything You Read, Android Users are as Current as iPhone Users - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

I'm sure 99% of you more about phones than I, which side do you fall on? Do you think they (Verizon or Samsung) actively withhold updates?

From what I've read, 50% have 2.2+. It always seems like there is no "current OS" with Androids, because each phone comes with a different version, and they seem to be developing new versions of Android software every quarter. The iPhone OS only serves one phone, so it's gotta be easier to have phones on the same version when that's all you've got to worry about.

I think so matter what happens, if you read an article that is "pro-" anything you're not going to get the true story. Due to the fact that almost everyone is biased about certain things, it is very difficult to read something that is completely true and is truely not favoring either side of the issue.

Personally, for the reason Lauren mentioned I'd say it's definitely true that iOS users are more up to date with their software than Android users. Until recently, iOS had not only one phone to worry about, but also only one carrier. Now they have two. That's still nothing compared to all the carriers that Android has to release to (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, TMobile, Virgin Mobile, etc etc). And Android has tons of phone companies they have to release to. And tons of specific models within each company. For the pro-Droid article to say that Android users are as up to date as iOS users is a little ambitious, to say the least.

To be honest, the top article probably wasn't too far off in their number, as Gingerbread IS out now and very few phones offer it. I didn't read the entire article because I have no interest in Apple numbers, but in skimming through I did not see a reference as to where the author of the article got their numbers from.
