it's a matter of choice. The update.zip is the easiest for sure. I did it that way at first. Then I also wanted to root so I used the odin method so I could root and upgrade. And run any ROM I wanted to on my phone

Does this method allow for EXT4 Roms? As I understand it, have a phone with EXT4 file management rather than rfs will make for a much faster phone.
Thanks for all the information. I'm on Froyo now! Time to decide which one click root method to use and which ROM I want to start with.

For whatever reason I can't obtain root. I clicked everything on in the phone as stated...do I have to go back to "download" mode before plugging the phone back in before running the root access?

Thanks so much for this guide! it worked great.
I was already rooted before i updated to 2.2 but it still works good so far. didnt get to test alot of stuff like gps yet, however. i did notice that my voicemail is messed up, it keep showing an error on the bottom of my screen saying Error:v503 something something something.

Tried this last night and couldnt get past the download from Odin to the Epic. Came back and said md5 invalid. Going to try and download again tonight and send it. Might try the first option also if no go on the alternate method.
