Help GT540 - Problems since upgrading

Hey,

Since upgrading my phone to 2.1 I've been having a few problems.

The battery life is horrible, only lasts a day if that. Began the day today on full battery and it was dead by around 8PM with pretty low use of the phone - a 5 minute phone call and maybe about 20 texts. And also when I do charge it the phone gets really really hot.
Touchscreen plays up, was a lot more stable on 1.6 even though I heard the touchscreen was improved in 2.1. It doesn't pick up a lot of the touches, and sometimes "over-actions" the touch if that makes any sense. I've done a few touch callibrations to see if it was just my uncoordination, but nooo.

Is anyone else having problems since upgrading?

Thanks

To keep battery healthy, do this twice a month: Charge to 100%>Drain Totally, then charge fully to use... Don't do it too many times, twice a month is enough... :p

Also, when you normally charge your device, it doesn't charge 100%.. Now, to charge totally, do a bump charge.. Battery lasts longer if you use the bump charge method... :D :D :D

How to bump charge: Charge battery to 100%
while it's turned on> Unplug> turn off> charge
fully> power on> power off> again charge
fully... Then power on and use... :D

EDIT: DON'T do that 'totally drain' thing, it damages battery... Sorry about that...

But before I upgraded, my battery would last up to three days with normal use. Basically the day of upgrading the phone the battery hasn't been lasting. I'm not doing anything different - still using the same apps, no live wallpapers, use the app killer. I've checked the battery usage and there's nothing outta the ordinary in there.
I've only had the phone for about three months. The battery health shouldn't degenerate that fast should it?
I don't usually let it die before charging it either (I have a few times since purchase because I know it keeps the battery healthy), but at the moment there's not much option as it's dead by the time I'm home from work haha.

HI! After you open network settings, you click on access point names and choose your carrier settings or press on the menu key, an option will come saying restore default settings. press that and it will restore ur mobile internet. hope that helps

Get an app killer and make sure you've nothing running in the background, settings >about phone > battery use

Don't use task killers, they drain your battery life even more because when you close the app, Android automatically opens it back up again and stores it in memory for next use, this drains the battery because it has to keep reopening apps. It's basically messing with the normal order of Android's code. If you want better battery life, try installing 2.2. Just make sure you read through the whole post and understand the risks. :) http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-gt540/251202-cyanogenmod-6-1-android-2-2-here-gt540.html

DO NOT DO THIS!. This process will just make the battery life shorter and last A LOT less longer. This process used to work with old nickel batteries, but the GT540 uses a Lithium-Ion battery which is a completely different battery because the chemical inside is Lithium-Ion, and these batteries will wear away quicker if you use this process. I don't remember the full reason on why this happens, but if you Google 'Lithium-Ion batteries' I'm sure you'll understand the full reason why. :)

When I upgraded to 2.1, I noticed my battery life wasn't as long either but then when I installed 2.2, my battery life was noticeably longer! If you want to install 2.2 then check out my thread here: http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-gt540/251202-cyanogenmod-6-1-android-2-2-here-gt540.html But make sure you read the whole post properly so you fully understand the risks and bugs there still are :)

If you want to stay on 2.1 (bearing in mind LG will never release 2.2 for the GT540), then you can try a few things to make the battery life last longer:
Go to Settings>Accounts & Sync>Auto-sync and uncheck the box, you can also disable 'Background Data' if you want, but if you use apps that uses push notifications (like Gmail so you receive your emails as soon as they come through) then you might not want to disable it.
Also if you use the Facebook or Twitter app, then go to settings and set the refresh interval to never, meaning that you have to manually check your tweets and facebook posts, this is the same for any other app that might use the internet at periodically set intervals. You put these settings off because when, for example, Facebook uses the internet every hour to check for new messages etc. and you don't really need this to happen, it's just wasting your battery life for when you need it.

You could also disable 3G (Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Use only 2G networks), this gives you a longer battery life whilst giving you standard quality calls and slower internet speeds.

Hope this helps! :D
