saw this article on cnn about iphone 3g data speeds
AT&T iPhone beats Verizon in nationwide 3G speed tests - CNN.com

according to the article att speeds for the iphone averaged 1768 kbps download, 730 upload

i downloaded the free speedtest.net app from the market and ran it a couple times

mine was 1568 down, 165 up

not much of a difference on the download but considerable difference on the upload

post your results

Stock Captivates don't seem to use HSPA. After I loaded the Assonance ROM 5.2 which includes modem support for HSPA (Not HSPA+) my upload and download speeds where I live approximately doubled.

I usually measure around 1.75 Mbps down and around 1 Mbps up now. My friends here with stock Captivates usually see about half that.

When i go into SGS Info it says Network Type: HSDPA. Is that the same as HSPA ? Phone is stock. Speed will vary. Just tested it now 2049/280 (download is usually around 1100)

HSPA includes HSDPA (Download) and HSUPA (Upload) ... I am HSPA (not +) seeing upload speeds with Captivate and Assonance 5.2 of around 1 Mbps - your speed will vary depending on network load - but it is significantly faster than plain at&t 3G - HSPA+ can be double HSPA but only with upgrades to the backhaul at the cell site.

I am quite happy with the HSPA speeds tho !

On wifi, mine says 3199kbps down and 1923kbps up. No idea what that means

the higher the numbers the faster the information is able to be transferred to your phone, download, and from your phone, upload. those numbers arent real high for wifi but i dont know what kind of wifi youre hooked up to, its not too bad. most people are comparing their att data speeds here
