Help Does GPS work without 3G Activation?

So you guys can take your Xoom with you on the road and use google map as your gps without 3G data???
That was not the reason I asked the question. Although Goolgle Maps does cache your route, that's pretty limiting -- if you go too far off route it cannot recover without a data connection.

I bought CoPilot Live USA (on sale for $2.99 when I bought it) for my OG Droid. The advantage to CoPilot is that all of the maps are loaded on storage. Since I don't have my Xoom yet I don't know if CoPilot will even work (but I expect that if it does not then someday they will have a tablet version).

There are a couple other mapping applications that allow you to load the maps on storage (e.g., MapDroid). TomTom and Navigon may also have Android versions.

I don't think I'll be activating 3G on my Xoom (although I may activate it when 4G is available -- if the pricing is right :)); so it will be nice to have some Navigation available the screen size should make it outstanding for that purpose.

4G is expected available on the device in a couple of months and the pricing is the same as 3G. Why not just get it now?
