Who is going BACK to 2.1 now?

You know, as a former captivate user who was disgruntled and went to the nexus one, I have to say I made the right choice. I had nothing but issues with my captivate (random power offs, GPS nonexistant, no support). Since my nexus, no issues. Also, I just updated to 2.3.3 (stock) when captivate users are just now on 2.2. I will NEVER buy another Samsung product.
All who love their captivate, well bless you but I have never looked back.

Since moving from Captivate to Incredible, I never had any issues w/GPS. Never lost signal, not once. It's something I never have to think about now. And I didn't have to wait and wait and wait for other things that other phones already had long ago.

Happy now.

Just saying. 2.2 is pretty beautiful...it might have bugs and problems and stuff, and that's what Cognition 4.1 fixes. At which point, you have the phone you always wanted. It's based off the official 2.2 release, too, so yeah, you guys should go check it out...

I'm sure it is..but it's still 2.2 without BT voice dialing, unless I'm mistaken..so I'd probably be moving on to something with 2.2.1

New Froyo is awesome.

No one cares you're going back to 2.1.

I hope that wasn't directed at me as the OP. I was merely asking a question! I have been on a custom ROM from day 1 of having my Cappy and LOVE IT. Serendipity 5.12 right now with Paragon's kernel using some slight UV - SWEET combo!

Going back to 2.1 from that???? NOT ME!! :D

Why do you have to flash back to 2.1 to flash a custom ROM when 2.2 is an official update?

Because I have no interest in installing the official update. I need to flash back because I have an old version of Cognition with a recovery env that only installs signed ROM images. I think that most people flashing from a recent version of Cognition can just install it on top of the old one. This issue was fixed a long time ago but I've just been lazy in updating. :p

I'm not going back because I never upgraded in the first place and probably won't until 2.2.1. Let all the bleeding edge types find the bugs and AT&T/Samsung fix them.

That and the only thing that would cause me to upgrade would be BT voice dial which supposedly is in 2.1.1 but not 2.1.

I understand an initial reluctance to upgrade while awaiting feedback from bleeding edge experiences. Heck, I offered that as a "tip" twice in the days preceding Froyo's official release. But if you're waiting for Samsung to fix bugs (other than showstoppers, which I haven't read about) well, it may be a long, long wait. You may have to draw your personal line in the sand and either be content with Eclair, upgrade to a less-than-perfect Froyo, or load a custom ROM.

But you already knew that, didn't you.

There are some issues that won't be fixed by Froyo but it sounds like overall it is an upgrade. Why would you want to go back to 2.1? There are no advantages of 2.1 over 2.2. I'm using a custom ROM and have been from the start, as the updates from independent (super awesome) developers come way faster than waiting for AT&T to figure out how to monetize the next update and make you wait so long you salivate over it like a hungry dog.

Full disclosure. I'm an old fart.:) I use my phone to make and receive calls, send an occasional text, occasionally access the internet, take a few pics or use GPS. For me 2.1 works fine for those things. I would like to have BT voice dial which no one has said works with 2.1 or 2.2 and Captivate. But you're probably right about a long long wait. My contract isn't up for 1.5 years. If they haven't updated it by then I'll switch phones and carriers.
