I can agree with your concern.
But Sprint has not "officially" mentioned a switch to LTE. All is speculation, the only thing Sprint has confirmed is that they have a viable/cheap/easy solution for switching over to LTE.
Now without any official announcement of a switch to LTE, and Sprint still pushing WiMax, they aren't going to make any annoucement during a preshowing of the 3D about it having LTE, it isnt logical.
Im not saying that it is good that they didnt mention, but that is business and how it works.
We still have NO confirmation whether the 3D has a radio capable of WiMax and LTE yet. I would guess a tear down of the radio's or the FCC approval will prove it.
You will have time before buying/reserving the 3D to know if it does or doesnt.
This isnt the same as HD-DVD vs. Bluray.
Edit: I guess also being a premier Gold customer, it doesnt bother me if 2012 they have a new LTE Evo and the 3D isnt capable, I'd probably buy the new one any way. I get a new phone every year.
I'm short on time because of the 4/1 deadline for upgrade before I lose my Premier status.
You see, I've got 2 phones... One just went off contract and the other has been eligible for an upgrade since last year. I've been holding off on it, but then I got hit with this Premier change....
If I knew Sprint was going to double their efforts into WiMax, it wouldn't bother me if my next Sprint phone didn't have an upgrade path to LTE, but I have a feeling.
I have a feeling the reason Sprint keeps talking WiMax is because if they dropped it, they'd be the only nationwide carrier that couldn't claim 4G. I also feel it's not in their interest to expand their current WiMax coverage because no one else is doing it in the US and WiMax isn't living up to what was expected.
If they were to switch to LTE and equip their handsets properly, they could at least get roaming/reselling agreements, as they are implementing LTE. Shoot, they're reselling WiMax, as it is.... The only issue with reselling LTE would be Verizon. Verizon is King of LTE, in the US for now, and they don't want to resell their LTE service. Sprint is pushing hard, with the FCC right now, trying to force low cost data roaming/reselling agreements as they currently have with voice service.
It seems, everything on Sprint, when it comes to 4G, is a gamble right now and if 4/1 passes without hearing good news about Sprint's future 4G services, I guess it's time for me to move on to Verizon with the Thunderbolt.
My only problem, with moving to the Thunderbolt right now, is the battery life. My friend is only getting 6 hrs of normal use and it's driving her nuts!!
Ugggh!! Decisions decisions!
