Root GingerShedBread/GSB

As far as you know (afaYk), is the notification bug specific only to xtrROM (and not xtrSENSE)?

Sadly, it happens to me on both. It may just be the way that I am set up.

I did try running xtrSENSE with Conap's CFS kernel, but I had a hard freeze after about a day and a half. I knew that xtrROM/xtrSENSE was running Zanfur's kernel, but I didn't know it was different from the original OC kernel.

There is also Tainted Tenzo - the only thing I didn't like about that was the transparent lockscreen, but a little metamorph or maybe widgetlocker can fix that. It's possible that there is a notification issue with that; I may check that out.

I tried running CELB for a few days last week, and that was ok (one restart), but I forgot about the GPS issue and was surprised to come home from a 105 minute run to find in Runkeeper Pro that I had run 210 miles, including an extremely rapid swim 40 miles into the Atlantic Ocean and back. And I live about 40 miles away from the Atlantic. So, it's GSB from scratch for me. My GSB 2.1 was flashed over 2.0 (which was running the cache2cache script over as well) and I wondered if that was part of the issue. When I left 2.1 I was running with about 40 MB free space for apps, and I now have over 60 (with some more apps). I think flashing over GSB that was set up with cache2cache is problematic. At least I hope so.

bc is it that bad on other roms?

Scotty, I flashed back to TastyBread 2.0 and xtrSENSE 5.0 and didn't seem to have those issues. So I quees I'll go into Titanium and start freezeing apps and then unfreeze one at a time until I find the culprit. I wonder if it could be the fancy widgets?

Could be,bc. That actually seems likely cause it takes foeva to open the weather widget. Wen I get home ill try freezing that one, too.

Running GSB2.2, and i wonder if the launcherpro is integral to the point that i would regret going to something like golauncher ex or something. That's what I used before root, and really loved it. Anybody have suggestions?

It should be fine. You can leave LauncherPro installed and just make Go your default home when you press the Home button after installing it.

If you are really nervous about it, do a Nandroid backup before you install, so you can always go back if it gets messed up.

Posted this over on XDA, but I want to see if anyone here has any input:

Been having trouble getting gmail to show up in settings/acct&sync after flashing 2.2. My Eris kinda laggs on installing the google apps in the beginning. Sometimes after flashing I have gmail, but it won't auto sync. Sometimes after flashing I can't get it to sync at all. I've tried a couple times now, starting from scratch each time. Yes, I flash gapps and cache2cache before rebooting.

Anyone else see this? I apologize if it is addressed earlier in the thread, but I haven't seen it yet.

Is it just me, or does each phone seem to have a favorite ROM? What works SO well for me seems to be full of problems for others and vise-versa. What could account for the differences?

Again,
Thanks for all the hard work-shed!

What does freezing an app do? (Sorry if this was covered earlier)

Freezing turns off the execute bits (permissions) so that Android can't start it.

Keeps it in-place so its "better" than deleting. But you should still protect yourself with a Nandroid backup in case you freeze the wrong thing.

Cheers!

having a backup is always a good idea, but using titanium to freeze things is a fairly safe venture... its not permanent,so if you experiment and get some wierd results you can always go back and "melt" the ones causing prollems :D i froze a bunch of stuff on my stock TB rom and then had to go back and melt(unfreeze) a couple things that seemed to confuse it
