I just picked up my TB a couple of days ago. Came from using the B.Berry and one of the things I noticed is when outside it is nearly impossible to read the screen....what is the secret? I have the brightness turned all the way up, but really it shouldn't be that hard to see.

Any suggestions or tricks?

Thank you!

Chuck

I don't generally try to use my phone outside (walking from class to class), but even in extremely sunny conditions I can still make out the large HTC Weather Clock widget with the brightness at 25%. I use widgetsoid to toggle my phone between 1% and 25% brightness with one tap.

The bolt seems to have a dim backlight. I've seen many different tbolts in different stores and my DX is twice as bright as the bolt. Yes, of course I had the display settings on both phones the same. If the bolt had a better screen I would have it as I've had an available upgrade for almost 2 months now but IMHO the screen is just too dim and the upgrade from my DX just isn't that big to warrant the switch.

It seems to me in my young experience with the Droid is that each version is a bit different. I have co-workers who purchased one the moment they first came out....Original Droid. They liked them so well that I was turned on to them. I have been using the Black Berry because of the need for business email. I don't understand how a phone that is so powerful can have such minor features overlooked? My 14 day trial period is running out.....

Eh, unfortunately, this seems to be a common problem with electronics. You typically can't see the screen without cranking the brightness all the way up.

I'm curious as to why that is, though. I mean, is it possible we'll ever see a device with a screen you can see while outside, without having to crank the brightness up? Is screen technology just not good enough, or something? Or is it just impossible for a screen to be viewable in sunlight, period? Aren't there already some devices that have a screen you can easily see? I swear Amazon had promoted their Kindle device as having a screen you can see in sunlight, on one of their commercials. Why have no other companies incorporated this screen technology into their devices?

Two things affect this most IMO are the backlighting and reflection of the screen. I have seen dozens of differnt Tbolts and every one has a MUCH dimmer backlight than the DX. My Inc with the amoled was BEAUTIFUL but also poor in sunlight. I loved the deep contrast of the Inc, but prefer the much brighter screen of my DX. I can say that I am very disappointed in the dim screen of the Tbolt and that is why I have basically crossed it off my list. Since 99% of the time I use my phone I am doing so with the screen it is VERY important to me that the screen be top notch. It also sounds like the Bionic could have a crappy/dim screen and if so that will cross it off my list too. Right now the best upcoming Verizon phone on the horizon looks to be the SGS2. Sammies have beautiful screens, albeit it will likely still be very hard to see outdoors. But overall from the reported specs and screen the SGS2 is supposed to have I believe I will be waiting for that phone to use my upgrade.
