Help *UPDATE* Sick of the inconsistency

I didn't really experience the many "little quirks" you have, but my phone did appear to be must less stable over time with using LPP. Going with another launcher (ADW.Ex for myself) corrected the stability/sluggish issues. Give another launcher a try.

Sounds like my phone mlc. Out of nowhere it will just shut down and start all over again. Sometimes 2 or 3 times in a row. VZW guy told me there is some sort of wipe they can walk u thru but you will lose all your apps. I guess a factory reset maybe.

I haven't had any of the issues you've mentioned, and I'm running LPP as well.

However, one thing that I've heard is that LPP is buggy if you enable the rotation. I've seen many people claim that once they disable screen rotation, thier problems go away.

FWIW, I turned that feature off from day one, since I don't like my homescreen going into landscape mode.

I'm with the OP. Constantly restarting my phone to get it to work is getting really old. Not to mention the battery life is crap. I woke up at 7, listened to the XM app for about 30 minutes and texted lightly and I was down to 15% by 11:00. All the fun little widgets and customizable stuff may not be worth it.

From my experiences, nothing in this thread is normal. 85% power drain in 4 hours? Random reboots?

I'm not saying that it's the be-all-end-all launcher but it has served me well since I got the phone in July. Before we got the Froyo fix, I used to have random reboots but after the fix hit, the phone has been very stable.

I use my power very conservatively so maybe that has something to do with my battery life. My screen is at like 25% brightness and I don't use live wallpapers. I can go an entire day listening to tunes and checking Twitter without dropping below 40%.

Clearly the results you folks are getting are very real for you. I'm just not seeing such poor reliability.

I see these posts all over the place and I am extremely jealous. I am this close to just saying screw it and either getting an Iphone or even worse, getting a phone for texting (RAZOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

here is my take. however keep in consideration that i am running Apex 1.4.1 with Launcher Pro and auto rotate OFF.

Launcher Pro is the only active launcher on my phone and has been for the greater part of the last year that i have been running android. it works the best for me. recently i had ADW on my phone and was having reboots and random quirks. uninstalled this (as many others suggested b/c they were having the same issues and traced it back to the latest ADW update). around this time i made the switch from Liberty 1.5 to Apex 1.4.1 and that also made a HUGE difference.

if you are really ready to go a different rout, i would highly suggest rooting and flashing Apex and giving that a go. you will keep the important Blur features but in my experience, you will have very few random reboots (i had them for the first week i owned my DX before i rooted it.

I have seen a lot of posts that show people having issues with LPP. I don't like LPP personally. My favorite is GO Launcher. Give it a try. Random reboots and bad battery life are usually due to a poor written app that has been downloaded. Or if while downloading, somethings goes awry. Most times you would never know this has happened until you start getting force closes, random reboots, and/or bad battery life. With all the different things I've done to my X, I would def say that the experiences listed above are NOT the norm, if that was the case, nobody would be using it.
My suggestion would be to try and uninstall any apps you downloaded around the time you remember the issues occurring. You can try reinstalling them once you identify which are potentially causing your problemsand hope that it was just a bad download.
If you really want to get the most out of your phone, I'd root it and ROM it with one of the ROM's out there like Apex or Liberty. They are regarded as the most stable and user friendly with TONS of customization each.

@slingshot, the market now backs up your apps and reinstalls when you do a factory reset. It does sound like you have one in the near future. If you have a rooted phone, my suggestion is to download titanium backup and use that to back up your apps and app data. This makes reinstalling easier. However, if one of your apps is causing the reboots (which most likely it is b/c of a bad script or something in the code), then when you reinstall the bad app, it will cause the same problems. If you are trying to figure out which one it is, the best way to do it is to write all your apps down, factory reset (also wipe data and wipe cache partitions), and then reinstall each app one by one. I know this sounds tedious, but you will be able to tell which apps cause problems (make sure you give your phone a good 10-15 minutes between installs to make sure the app/phone is stable)

Not trying to make you feel bad, just letting you know it can be better. Maybe your phone is defective. A buddy with an EVO had the damn thing rebooting all the time. He backed it up with Titanium and swapped for another phone. It's been clear sailing ever since.

i am getting tired of my X, for no apparent reason when i attempt to make a call i can't hear anyone and they can't hear me. Even on incoming calls it does the same thing..pulling the battery usually works but i'm tired of it. I'm waiting for the next iphone to see what it offers. Then i hate to say it but i'll be an apple fanboy.

There was actually an update to launcher pro today.. you might want to have her try that update first. (It also addresses issues in the leaked Gingerbread release yesterday.)

mlc331, just wanted to say thanks for coming back to the thread and updating. People so often let these issues hang, and they'll turn up in a search or something and the person searching has no resolution to it.

Really interesting to hear LPP might be causing you grief. I've had nothing but stability from it. Let us know if your wife uninstalls it and experiences a similar stability improvement.

I've called Verizon on the phone, and they have told me that the "little quirks" are normal and that a battery pull or restart is "normal". That's CRAP!

The phone seems to act fine, and work normal MOST of the time, but I'm not quite understanding why every once in a while it just flips out. I would move towards it being the phone, however my wifes X does the EXACT same thing. We are both running LPP but have various different applications. Neither is running a task killer and neither do much more than the occasional application/game/wallpaper/calendar crap. The only difference is that I am also running TouchDown for my work email. but that application runs flawlessly. It has NEVER locked or been quirky.

Why would both phones do this if it's not the norm? It could simply by LPP and how it's interacting with various apps and the stock android template. I have no idea!!!

I'm going to uninstall LPP and see where that leads me. I'm hoping for the best. But then we'll be able to see if the phone cleans it's operations up under stock android as apposed to LPP, or if it's just the X being quirky within the android world.

Just so you know, my X does the same kinds of things. I'm running Go Launcher and have tried LPP in the past.

LPP made my phone laggy. I wanted to like it but my phone runs much smoother without it.

Did you clean off your stock desktop before installing LPP?

I've talked to numerous people who say that LPP was laggy, but after they cleaned off the stock desktop, it was fine.

When you install another launcher, it's running on top of the stock launcher. That's not a big deal if the stock launcher has nothing on it but if there are widgets and shortcuts underneath LPP which is going to have its own widgets and shortcuts, it's a recipe for slowness.

If you already knew all this... carry on. Just trying to help!

Most launchers are fine unless you pile a bunch of crap on them with a ton of screens. Just out on them what you really need, not what looks cool to impress others.

I was not aware of this so thanks for sharing! so, how does one clean up their desktop? I just uninstalled LPP and saw all the original widgets/icons on the desktop. Do I have to delete each one?

Yes, you need to clear off everything on all screens. you can also use home switcher for froyo to switch back and forth between original launcher and lpp. Basically all that crap that was on the original screens was running at the ame ime as the launcher pro stuff as well, and that of course bogged the phone right down.

My wife had a similar situation, with all told about 50 items on her various screens. I finally did a complete sbf to stock, cleared the original launcher, installed lpp, and her phone is now a bazillion times faster, and my wife is a a MUCH happy camper now.

I've tested a few other launchers, and once setup properly, lpp is the fastest of the bunch. Make sure you also increase the transition settings as well in launcher pro.. flipping screen to screen you want max speed, but for opening the app drawer set to 8 instead of 10 so you can ee the actual scaling transition.

Thanks for the tip! Are these the "Opening Speeds" located under Preferences/Advanced?

Yep. For fliping homescreen pages I crank it all the way up, but for the rest I slow it down to 7 or 8, so I can actually see the transitions.. otherwise its just too fast.
