Firmware Updates Coming

What can I say... I'm a noob to android and rooting. Gotta learn this stuff somehow...

You guys are ruthless!

I wouldn't worry much Nor*Cal - You're not the only noob here. It's a board and you got your question answered. Besides, Worm is pretty knowledgeable so we of the great unwashed can still learn at his feet. ;)

Was going to root with the auto root from AC but will wait for the update to make sure there are no issues getting the update.

For what it's worth, if you plan on rooting, it really doesn't matter if you do now or after the OTA is pushed out. The devs that create the custom ROMs will incorporate the OTA into their ROM... probably before the OTA will even hit your phone.

Do you have your thunderbolt rooted? What are the benefits of rooting over just doing an update like this?

No I'm not rooted, just a personal decision at the moment.

Your next question is loaded to the brink with ways to respond... so I'll just say doing the update will keep you with stock software, while rooting will do the same, but also give you the ability to install custom ROMs and kernels of your choosing.

Ok well i have been thinking about rooting but i like how the phone is set up. Im not a big fan of making the phone look different i would just like to get better battery life and i have herd that people are getting better battery life out of there phones once they root them but i didnt know if putting the different roms in will make the phone look different or what it really does since i dont understand it but i guess i should look more into it in the post that there are

How do these leaks come out ? Someone from HTC or Verizon leaks them? If I do the non root version of the update and I have to return this phone. Will they not like it?

No, they probably wouldn't like that. I remember back in the day (less than a year ago, lol) when I had my Eris users who installed a leaked RUU couldn't officially get OTA updates anymore because their software was no longer stock. Just something to keep in mind.

AFA where this RUU came from, it hasn't actually been said, but after reading through jcase's thread, I believe he has a source within HTC. I could be wrong, but that's what it seemed like to me
