Root [RUU] 4-18-2011 | New Rom + Radio 1.16.00.402 FIXES!

For some reason, I seem to have trouble getting into HBoot. I power the phone off, hold Volume Down + Power for a good amount of time and nothing happens. If I let go too soon, the phone just turns on like normal. The HBoot screen never comes up.

EDIT: Nvm. I got it working. Sorry about that.

Ok, I figured this out. There appears to be some confusion about the radio update, so here's my attempt to clear things up:

The radio update at the first post of this thread contains both the radio update AND the stock ROM with a few modifications. Your data WILL be wiped if you flash the file from the first post of this thread. Root access should be preserved, although I did not test this. Filesize for that file is around 400MB.

The radio update at the first post of either BAMF thread contains ONLY the radio, and will be 25MB in size. Flashing that file WILL NOT wipe the data off the phone. Root access is preserved.

Hope this helps!

I flashed this RUU & ROM last night, you are correct, root access is preserved & the data WILL be wiped.

I'd just like to point out that Superuser is messed up a bit on here. It seems there is a signature mismatch between the version included in this RUU and the Marketplace. I noticed some root apps were acting squirrelly, tried to update from the Market and that was a no go. SU Update Fixer wouldn't work either. You have to manually go in an remove Superuser (/system/app/com.noshufou.android.su.apk), reboot, then install Superuser from the Marketplace. Just an FYI if anyone has the same issues I did.

The one from the market seems to cause issue with sense, hence the reason for me to include this one.

I dunno, seems to be ok now. I'm so tired I can't even remember what it was I was doing that made me notice this, but I noticed some apps were having an issue finding busybox. After hammering on busybox for a while trying to figure out what was wrong with it, my spidey sense told me something was wrong with Superuser. I did the manual removal as stated above and suddenly things started working again and things that never worked before (Fix Permissions under ROM Manager) actually ran without error. I wish I had more details, but perhaps Superuser in the Market has been fixed to work with Sense now? I'm sure 99.9% of people won't even notice the difference or ever have a problem with the Superuser in the RUU, so it probably doesn't matter. I just thought I'd share to help someone avoid a headache if they run into the same thing I did.

Busybox is not part of android by default and I don't include it, it has nothing to do with root/su at all.

don't you have to update to the current busybox via Titanium? I know my Titanium back up did not work until I updated Busybox within Titanium Backup.

Yes, or at least that's what I do. However, for some reason, whatever Ti does to provide itself Busybox doesn't seem to carry over to Terminal? At least I couldn't get it to work, so I install the Market version of Busybox after letting Ti fix itself via the Problems? interface. Then Ti works and I can use Busybox in Terminal.

I don't know how many people use Busybox in Terminal or write/run scripts, so this issue probably doesn't effect many people. I'm not suggesting anything should change with the RUU since it works for most people, I just wanted to share what I found if anyone ever runs into it.

Ok can somebody explain this to me...I backed up my rom then flashed the new rom + radio after making sure I had the new baseband..I then reinstalled my backup...now the backup shows the new baseband, however the sound is still very low when using the cam...everything else is fine...no reboots ...4G & 3G work just fine although my location in maps is 2 blocks away from my house. I was under the impression this would fix the low volume on the cam..did I miss something?

you messed up when you flashed your backup. the baseband had nothing to do with the "fix". the rom contains all the fixes.

your baseband will remain even after you restore your backup so you are good there. just flash the rom again and dont use your backup.
