Root What's the best, stable ROM with full functionality for Captivate?

I've been trying to read up on XDA on the ROMS available but there is just so much information to read it's overwhelming.

I'm looking for a super stable, usable 2.2 or 2.3 ROM to use, with full functionality - GPS, screen lock, camera, etc etc.

Even if it's just Froyo / 2.2 I'm ok as long as I don't have to mess with a bunch of bugs or work-arounds to get things working.

Can you please recommend the best ROM(s) for this purpose?

I'm still on a 2.1 ROM that I haven't messed with for months.

Thanks for your help.

I've used lots of them.

First, you won't find a truly stable 2.3.x ROM right now. They're still being developed. I'm using Continuum v5, but it has some minor issues just like all of them do. Plus they're all based on the i9000 code.

I've used Cognition a lot, but about a little over a month ago it had an udate and got a bit buggy and hasn't been the same since. Plus, GPS was never any good for me with that ROM.

The 2.2 ROM I'd been using for the last month with no complaints is Phoenix Unleashed which was last updated on 4/1. It had decent battery, good performance and good GPS.

Based upon your initial post, I'd recommend Phoenix.

In my experience, Phoenix Unleashed 8.0 was the most stable 2.2.1 ROM that I found. It seemed to me that it was a little more stable and fixed a couple of the few bugs that I had on Serendipity, such as wifi. Another one that I tried for a couple of days was Firefly 3.0. That was very stable as well. You can't really go wrong with any of those three. As was said earlier, you're not going to want to try any of the 2.3.3 ROMs until they're a little bit more seasoned.

I had great luck with Paragon. It hasn't been developed since March, but it is solid enough that it doesn't need to be. I used Paragon for 3 months before I got bored and decided to flash Continuum v4. Continuum was working great except I didn't have a lot of luck with the Kernel, so I flashed the Paragon Kernel with the Continuum ROM. Everything is great now. GPS is lightning quick and accurate, battery lasts me all day and I am a fairly demanding user, layout is slick, and the lag is almost non-existent.

I would not recommend Cognition 4. I finally convinced my wife to let me flash her phone with a custom ROM because I promised her that very little would change except a ton of good stuff. When she finally agreed, I flashed with Cognition 4.2. Performance wise it worked well, but it was taxing her battery. I decided to flash Cognition 4.3.1 and see if the fixes helped her issue. They didn't. She still had horrible battery performance and over a week she had two sleep deaths (phone dies when in sleep mode and only a battery pull can get it back).

After the second sleep death, yesterday I flashed her phone with, what else, Paragon RC6. I think she will like it because it has great battery life and she gets all of the custom ROM features without sacrifice.

Serendipity was awesome when I was on it! I thought it was much better than Cog (personally). I've since moved on to GR11 (2.3.3) and love it! It is still in BETA, so it's not perfect yet, but damned close!

idk how everyones having such good luck with the GR-xx ROM, i have had horrible luck, ive tried every version since GR-9, and they all perform absolutely horribly on my phone. nearly every click i make, makes my phone lagg out and EVERYthing hangs when i click it, the messaging app continuously FCs when i try to back out of it. ive wiped my entire phone and re-flashed at least twice on each version ive tried (9, 10, and just recently 12) and it still doesnt help what so ever. and it sucks, bc i like it, i like the feel, when its not lagging uncontrollably, i like the looks, i love all the extra settings, and additional Tones and Notifications. too bad its hardly usable...

so i flashed back to serendipity for the 10th time, and im sticking with it. cant be much happier than i am with Serendipity 6.4
