Root [ROM][4.25.2011][ED01]Community Rom (just released 04-25-11)

so after a few trial and error attempts, finally was able to install and get the rom running. however, i can't seem to create a backup anymore. not sure if this is an issue because of the rom or something with cwm, but every time i try i get a "Error while backing up boot image!" any ideas what's causing this and how to fix it?

otherwise, besides crappy battery life (can't seem to escape it), loving the new rom and all that you guys do!! i just wish i could change the color of the icons in the notification bar. i'm just not a fan of that green...

There's a blue EnV theme just around the corner that I will wholeheartedly recommend when the creator is done with it. I have his green version and am anxiously waiting for the blue one myself, but his EnV theme is much more attractive in my opinion than what ships with the Comm rom at the get go.

The Nitro Honeycomb theme works mostly with comm rom, and it is very attractive as well, but there are things I am liking more about EnV. Here is a link to the green version:

got it, thanks! this is a total noob question, but is this something that can be changed easily? i love the look of the icons and the theme in general, it's just a color thing for me. i like the fact hat you can customize the text color. would love the same for the icons (again, no idea how complicated this may or may not be, but figured i'd ask).

Hey, don't worry. The new ROM is amazing, even with the colors it ships with. Nothing against you whatsoever! :)

After updating to 1.3, the ROM seems very stable overall. In fact it seems to just work better in most things. I can't hit 1.3GHz stable anymore, but I wouldn't run my phone daily at that anyways.

There are a few odd peculiarities, however. Downloading images causes the stock browser to freeze, every time, no matter what the source. I can't figure this one out, either. I tried a different browser and downloading works fine. This is the only real issue I'm having so far.

A minor observation is that with the puzzle lock selected as my screen unlock, new messages no longer produce their corresponding puzzle piece so I can go straight to the new message. This is no biggie whatsoever, just odd.

I don't know if either of these glitches are because of the EnV theme skinned on top, or because of issues with 1.3. Or maybe it's just me. :p

Lovin' the new 1.3 though. Really stable and happy.

Ok I started having 3G problems after installing 1.3 patch. I had them when I installed the original Com Rom, and had to get a new phone for another reason and the 3G worked no problem after that. And as soon as I put 1.3 on my phone yesterday, my 3G has been dropping out and reconnecting constantly. I am in the same areas I have always been and had great 3G coverage and my girlfriends Fascinate is running the Com Rom 1.2 and having 3G solid with no drops. Is anyone else experiencing this problem???

Nope. The only issues I've had are not signal related. And I can personally testify now after a day of full use that the battery life on 1.3 is improved even over 1.2, which wasn't bad. I watched two hours of TV shows, surfed the web, downloaded some files, made lots of phone conversations, texted frequently, played games ... quite a heavy day of use, and I still had 22% remaining when I got home.

Now if I could just figure out why the stock browser force closes every time I want to download something with it ...

As far as signal issues go, you could try reflashing just the EC01 radio file with Odin. That's personally what I'd do.

If that doesn't work, wipe cache and davlik three times each and reinstall 1.3, and see if that helps.

Is anyone else having issues with their Gmail on this ROM? I can receive emails, but when I delete them it doesn't sync with my online Gmail account. Also, I am unable to send emails from Gmail on my phone. I hit send and it just says "Sending" but never sends the email. Any help or feedback would be great. I am using the community ROM with the 1.3 patch

Never mind, just found a solution on another forum:

"Try going to Manage Applications/all/gmail/clear data. It'll take the app a minute or so get re-synced, but this seems to work frequently."

This did the trick for me!

The fix to this problem, as I have seen posted elsewhere, is to activate a different phone on your number, and then reactivate your Fascinate on your number. 3G is holding steady since then...

That one is pretty nice but is that swype keyboard themed? Because I'm tired on not being able to read the word choice and having the tsm logo over my keyboard.

The included gingy keyboard is. I miss a few too many features when I use swype. I like predictive to complete some words for me among other things. I'll switch to swype real quick and check for ye, though ...

... checking

Nope. Not themed. And it is the sucky old style that doesn't let you non-swype-type quickly when you need to. I would most certainly replace that with a different .apk. The swype not only has that TSM on it, but it's ugly, and it doesn't work as well as other versions I've tried. I'm with you. No thanks for now.

Give the new gingy a try though. It's super accurate and sexily skinned on the EnV theme. Really easy to read and type on.

there's a thread on this over at XDA. The easiest way to try and fix it is to activate another phone on your number on the Verizon website. You don't have to actually turn it on after you replace your current phone. Then wait five minutes, and put your current phone back on the account. I was getting constant drops to 1x when I never had before, and did this and it seems to have solved the issue. Something with the froyo updates and the database is screwed up, I don't know the full explanation.

If you don't have another phone, you can call tech support and ask them to put a dummy serial number on your line for a few minutes, and then put yours back on. You could also use your wife's phone, etc., and just switch them out or your old phone if you still have it. Run a speed test before and after and see if its increased as well. I didn't, but my speed seems to be doing well now.

You can move the Swype.apk file from the 1.0 comm rom to your system/app folder, and you'll have the good old regular swype back. I too thought the TSM was out of place on the keyboard. I'm all for giving credit where its do as well, but just not so much in my face! LOL

I found that fix after lots of searching and happened to have an old Droid 1 laying around and it worked great. It is weird how this happens...I havent done a speed test, but Imm just glad I have constant 3g again...
