Anyone in the UK got their Nexus One yet?

By the way, my Invisible Shield arrived today (ordered Tuesday I think) so not bad shipping time. I believe they arrive from stock in Manchester for UK orders.

Haven't got round to applying it yet though and may not at all depending on how I think the "naked" N1 is going to fair up. If I do see any sign of hairline scratches it's going straight on though.

You reccommend this then?
Send me a link and I'll maybe purchase one if I start to have issues.
Are you sleeving it at the moment or going bare?

ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | Google Nexus One Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield

As I think I said before, they are not perfect. They can be a pain to apply and difficult to get all of the edges to meet exactly. However, if you spend time and have patience to apply slowly and do a good job then I believe that Invisible Shield is the best product to stop scratches and maintain the look of the original product.

By the way they come with an unlimited replacement warranty. If damaged or lose stick they will send out another one. If you return the damaged product you can carry on replacing.

I haven't put mine on yet, using the phone as is. I'll put it on if I notice any minor marks on my N1 or I start hearing reports of people having trouble. Not using the sleeve either. As with all of my phones I pocket it on its own and have wallet and keys on the other side.

I've used those before and they are good, but on my iPhone the best I found were BodyGuardz for Google Nexus One - BodyGuardz | Skins, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Cases, Clear, Film

Equally as scratch resistant but with less of an orange peel effect and they also gave less resistance when moving your finger across the screen.

Having said that, I'm going for the naked approach with my Nexus!! :D

Wow, although generally this phone is ace, it's the little things that are getting on my nerves. The entire phonebook needs an overhaul. Some of my contacts have their birthdates listed thrice! One after the other (typed in manually by me, and probably pulled from Facebook and Google contacts too). Other problems are multiple email addresses (as in, the same one appearing more than once within a contact). I can't seem to find any way to fix the birthday problem.

Still, I'm very happy with my phone. Just like I thought, most the problems people have been complaining about I'm not experiencing, and the rest are simple software problems. Though simple doesn't always mean quickly fixed! The keyboard is fine (one of my biggest worries) and mistakes are fairly rare... mostly occur when I type really fast and the phone struggles to display what I'm typing fast enough. The camera is more than adequate for something attached to a phone (I never understood why that was so important, if you want good photos, get a good camera).

I wish there was some sort of bug/ticket way of submitting a known software issue, but I bet that system would become just as flooded as the online support forums.

Is everyone else still loving their phone? My fingerprints are really getting on my nerves, and every other problem is ignorable :D

Hi Martin.

I'm going to order a screen protector too. I have one on my Magic and it's saved the screen from 2 small (but noticable) scratches so far - despite me keeping it in it's sleeve and taking real care with it. They do seem to lower the sensitivity of the screen, but a price worth paying IMO.

The scratches on my Magic's protector are miniscule, but they're almost perfectly aligned with the pixels, creating a rainbow effect as you move the angle your looking at it (like a drop of water does).

I'd personally get it on there before you notice the scratches, it'd be gutting having a scratch on such a beautiful screen. You can always remove it if the sensitivity drop is too much, but you can't remove a scratch. :)

The only way to submit issues is through this link: Device Issues - Nexus One Help
It would be better if they had a Bugzilla account to use.
Anyway, I think we'll see a mini update sometime next week. Google are replying to so many questions on the N1 help forum now that I suspect they've been beavering away on software fixes.
We have to remember that this phone is emblazoned with Google. It's their baby and it will mean alot if people are complaining. We'll get (hopefully) the best service in software updates for this puppy in the future.

I'm loving my phone, no doubt.. My first smart/superphone so I don't have much to compare with except for friends Iphones and occasional G1, but the overall feel I get is that this is an incredibly well built machine. Looking forward to getting the most out of it!

I agree completely on the phonebook, it's ridiculous the amount of duplicates and superfluous information there. It makes you resort to time consuming micromanagement of contacts that you never needed before. But.. It's still nothing mayor, when we DO have organized and clean contacts, I'm sure I won't be bothered as much by it's shortcomings..

The fingerprints on the screen are also slightly annoying.. I guess it's just something one has to get used to, but it does make the phone look heavily used after only a couple of swipes across the screen.

Mostly however I'm getting annoyed by the bad search and sorting of the market, which has nothing to do with the N1 per se, but Android in general.. With a market quickly growing in size a better market application is needed ASAP.. I'm missing customised sorting (not only by nr of downloads), sorting of paid apps (not only free ones), better search (right now it's extremely picky on the wording.. I've searched for apps like "PowerManager" and it didn't find it because the name is "Power Manager"...), more search options (add tags to apps and let us search by tag!), and more..

Anyway, back to organizing contacts!

That's exactly what I've been thinking. People complain about their being no Google employees answering in the support forum, but from the threads I've looked at (ones with actual problems in them) there has always been at least one employee with troubleshooting tips and asking the user exactly how the problem occurred - they're clearly replicating problems found to try and fix them. I have utter confidence that within a month or two or the little niggly problems will be fixed.

Anyway, back to organizing contacts!

I've given up now. All the info is there, just not quite how I would like it. It's useable. Helps that I only have 23 contacts that I'm immediately bothered about. The rest can go in when it's a little bit more fixed.

...This thread is awfully quiet now without us lot waiting for our phones. Hopefully the people who ordered today/yesterday will start publicly posting their excitement come sunday/monday when the whole delivery cycle will start again :D

Get yourself a Google Contacts account and sync the phone with that then go online to the Google Contacts page and sort using that. It's much easier. Pretty good at recognising duplicates and allowing you to merge numbers etc.
As for Market. It is way better than when the App Store released on the iPhone. You have the same functionality as that platform on Android Market now. It'll get better in the coming updates this year hopefully.

Yeah, I thought we'd see peeps on here saying what their status was. The flight coming from CVG must have landed already but nobody seems bothered on here. Bit of a shame!
I'm looking forward to seeing the official accessories appearing on google.com/phone. Although I doubt I'll bother ordering from the US site till I see some UK sellers. Can't go through that geeky tracking process again, too stressful :(:)

Absolutely right there. I'm hoping they will release accessories in the UK not long after the US this time. Will wait and see as can live without accessories. Unless they have the cute lil robot on them.

Yep, agree.. Maybe next week we'll get a new batch of track-addicts.. Or maybe we were the only cool kids to do this properly ;). Nonetheless, looking back, the waiting seems like it took no time at all thanks to us keeping each other company and just having fun with our track-manias :p. I kind of miss that now.. :)

Google Contacts account? You mean www.google.com/contacts ? If so then that's included with your Gmail account, nothing new to get. But yeah, that's what I've been using, quite handy :).

As for the market, I'm not comparing with Iphone, I've never even seen the appstore on the Iphone let alone used it, so I have no reason to compare the Android one with it. I'm just saying what I think should be improved looking at how user friendly everything else is (or tries to be) nowadays.

Lol, yeah we were the best stalkers (I mean trackers) out there. I had those flightstats down before any other person. Seen people on other forums stealing my idea, the swines!
You are totally right about the improvements required. I hope the Android Team are smart enough to get it done and soon.

You can post Android bugs here. That's basically the Android bugzilla. You can view open issues here. It's all a bit jumbled with feature requests and bugs alongside each other, but the Google developers actively monitor it.

Note: Those links are purely for software related issues with Android, such as the Polar Clock wallpaper bug etc. For Nexus specific issues, use the link markouk supplied.

Have you all slapped the brightness up to 100% to see the blinding colours? I still can't get over how happy I am with this phone. Even after a couple of days the novelty hasn't worn off.

Despite the 1Ghz processor, battery life still seems better than my Magic.

Having come from a four year old phone that you couldn't make a 10 minute call on without needing to plug into a socket, this one seems to be doing ok to me, especially as it does 500x more than my old one! Still, I've not actually had a SIM card in there, so have had it on aeroplane mode with wi-fi enabled, but have been using it heavily all day for browsing and playing games, generally messing around with settings. Unplugged at 11am-ish, it's now at 44%. I don't mind charging every evening, don't know what everyone's complaining about!!

That sounds like a massive step up. I bet you're loving it even more than others who've come from other "smart" phones. :)

For a smartphone, it has a good battery life, I've been using smartphones for years and they've always seemed to last about a day and a bit (average to low usage), which is fine by me. I need to recharge daily and for a lot longer than it does. :D

I have an oldish WinMo phone (it's a bit crap), but it has e-mail, Internet and it's battery will go for a good 5 days. Handy for camping etc. but compared to the N1, it's quite offensive. 160x120 resolution screen.

Battery technology is the only let down in mobile devices.
I wish the Fraunhoffer institute would get it's ass in gear and release a top class battery. I'd love to be able to keep wifi, gps, bluetooth etc switched on as well as screen brightness full blah, blah, blah but that would drain the battery in seconds. It must be frustrating for the device makers that they are limited really by batteries these days.
I am going to carry around my little rechargeable power pack that you can plug a USB into so to keep my N1 topped up.

BTW, where are all the new expectant mummies and daddies on here? I wonder if any of the people who had packages coming in last night got their parcels processed through to their local depots.

Please let me know, I am obsessed with keeping an eye on the N1 flow.

On that note actually, I think there have been quite a few sold in the UK as I've been scouring other forums and they have been on the same flights that us lot here have. Wonder how the UK numbers work out?

Anyway, today is the day I can go down my High Street and show off my phone - hopefully without getting mugged by a chav!
I think I'm going to wander into a local phone store with my phone out and try to see what the reaction is like. Ha! Never been so excited to go shopping with the Wife :p
