Accessories Motorola Bluetooth Keyboard Discussion

I know there have been threads that discussed the keyboard, but I thought this would be a nice thread to keep ongoing questions and discussion about it. With that said, I will post my first questions:

Does anyone know of a way to flip from tab to tab within the browser? On my PCs, I just press ctrl+tab. But that does not work on this keyboard, nor does ctrl+w (used to close a tab). However, ctrl+t works fine to open a new tab.

Has anyone else experienced the sudden creation of multiple blank spaces instead of letters? As I was typing this, i found a couple times where there would be large breaks in my text with empty spaces, rather than actual text.

Has anyone else experienced the repeated character flaw? There have been a few times where it duplicates letters/spaces/numbers as I'm typing. Or so much as creating a few lines of text full of the same letter, as though a key was stuck. But, a few seconds of patience and the next few characters typed appear.

I just received my Keyboard in the mail today, so I'll give it some time. But as yet, there's no chance I'm showing my wife. She'll say I wasted my money ;)

yes to all those issues you have noticed.

its not the keyboard its more so the BT stack within the xoom tablet.

to test you can pair the bt keyboard to another device and will probably notice you wont get the stuck keys, blank spaces, etc. this has been known and motorola knows about it.

a way to stop the keyboard from sticking keys is to turn off the bt keyboard OR press the keyboard icon on the lower right notification area on the xooms display. this will stop characters from appearing. keep it that way for a few seconds, 15 or -ish, and then tap the keyboard icon to close the notification display. the board should re-acquaint itself with the tablet.

workarounds until moto releases a patch. this should, in theory, happen to any bt keyboard you pair with the xoom.

I also have been having the repeating character problem, and have noticed at least one LONG thread on the Motorola support site with folks who have been having the problem. It is frustrating to say the least! I hope there is a fix coming soon, because it seems silly that my $600 Xoom has this problem when my $360 Viewsonic G-Tablet didn't.

Today, I tried using the BT Keyboard while working on a Quick Office Spreadsheet. It definitely had some serious issues. Once I pressed "shift" in a cell, all subsequent characters were also capitalized, as though I'd accidebtly pressed the "caps lock". Very odd. The same thing occurred with the symbols on the number buttons. I kept getting a symbol rather than an actual number.

Anyone experience this?

I bought the Motorola keyboard today. It's much better than the onscreen keyboad. However, I instaltly noticed the repeating characters. There is also a lag when typing through web page.

Also, I heard they design this keyboard for Android. So I would ask, where is the switching app key? There is the back key, home key, and the menu key.

Also Ctrl C and Ctrl V works as copy and paste works at certain app. Ctrl Z undo doesn't exist.

Does anybody know what's that key left of the END key is for? It has 3 horizontal lines.

I also hoope the Ctrl Left and Ctrl Right will work too. But it doesn't.

I don't think that's the same key. The key on the keyboard has 3 horizontal lines. The options icon on top right has 4 lines. Also, the menu key next to the right Search key (near the space bar) will pull down the options icon on the top right of the screen.

So that key with 3 horizontal lines is unknown.

Interested enough, there is an "End"key but there isn't an "Home" key. Not the Home screen key, but moving the cursor to the beginning of a line Home key.

It's just seem like it's another half baked product motorola launched to consumers to have us scratch our head for.

I'm still waiting for the MicroSD card slot to be function..:\

I received my keyboard the other day and loving it so far.. Today the HD Dock came in and wow I love this setup!

Keyboard is nice, I love the layout and the chicklet style. Just wish it had a small backlight and perhaps a dedicated key to wake up from sleep mode; other than those 2 small complaints I love it so far.

The HD dock is excellent add on. With built in speakers and a mini sub, I no longer needed to have my powered speakers on my desk, so another item unplugged from my now shrinking power strip. I really hope they can enable touchpad / mouse support.

I love the keyboard WHEN it's working properly. I can't tell you how close I was to breaking it the other day when I got the redundant key error twice.

There is a specific forums that is rather finicky when visited from a mobile browser. Until a recent update, I couldn't even post on the site via my phone. But, it's still odd. It doesn't support any keyboard based text prediction/autocorrect for any of the touch-based keyboards. So, I have to do all typing the old-fasioned way by spell-checking by myself.

Anyway, from my Xoom, it's the same thing. Problem is, when the redundant-key error kicks in and I have to access the settings to toggle BlueTooth, I then return to Dolphin HD and the page reloads, leaving my input window completely BLANK. It did this twice to me while typing a huge PM.

I ended up having to use my laptop so that I didn't start breaking things. Later, I learned that the Xoom Stock Browser handles it perfectly, but the stability of that browser is another issue entirely.

Point being, the unpredictability of the keyboard left me stranded, having to retype a very detailed message TWICE. Very frustrating and feeling the urge to listen to some RATM.

Does anyone use the keyboard while using LogMeIn for a remote desktop connection? Man, a functional keyboard would make remote access way better.

I have this question as well. I use LMI to check and answer work emails and would really like to use a keyboard and mouse.

Is there a keyboard that works with LMI?

Is there a mouse that would work with LMI?

i have the moto keyboard and now paired a dinovo edge full size board w/trackpad. i have not experienced any stuck keys since the 3.1 update.. by now i would have. however, i will take notice of your statement.

Still no fix for the repeating keys with the new 3.1 update. Sure hope they fix this and yes, other keyboards do it too so it is the Bluetooth stack that's at issue.

I went back and checked both of my keyboards again and you guys are calling it stuck keys but it appears to me it is a too fast repeat. Try pressing and holding a letter on your laptop and see how long it takes to repeat the key, then try it on a bluetooth keyboard on the Xoom. It is like a hair trigger. If I am off base please let me know.
