3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

Well they're still not putting front facing cameras on every smartphone. They're definitely not putting dual core in most smartphones. 3D, yeah whatever lol. The stock unlock screens are far superior than most everything out there. The UI in general is definitely the best IMO. Flip to silence, map caching, the new way of answering calls while using turn by turn nav. A big deal for me is the hdmi/micro-usb in one tech. I forget the abbreviation/name of it, but it's badass. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things but as far as I'm concerned there aren't many other options for top of the line Android phones. This may be just my preference though.
Pretty much all of the stuff you listed there, is on all of the Sprint smartphones of this year. Front facing camera is on every one of them, dual core is on all but 1, UI is whatever you want it to be on all of them (like I said, SPB is where HTC stole pretty much all of the ideas for Sense, and you can get it on any of those phones), etc.

If you look at the Photon (or Atrix) and the Galaxy S 2, or even the Nexus S 4G, they all have features that the Evo 3D doesn't have. They all have have all of those features you listed too (except the Nexus S is only a single core).

The main feature that seperates the Evo 3D from the pack is the 3D cameras and screen.

Seriously...
Battlefield is so much better...:D
LOL... Don't bring that trash in here! :p:D

Doesn't everyone? Don't tell me you people are still paying Comcast...
Yes. I do. I have a dedicated 25mbit connection. LOL... I can't even imagine playing on my Smartphones internet connection! You're crazy man, and I like it! :D

Meh, maybe it's just personal preference then. You won't see me buy a Samsung product that's not a Nexus though, I'll tell you that much.
I must be the only person on these Forums who likes Samsung's phones... I even like TouchWiz! I feel so alone. :(

Try it, it's awesome. Being in the military, I'm not home much, so there's nothing like breaking out the laptop and firing up the mobile hotspot for a little gaming fun.

Sprint Wimax usually gets me in the 90-130ms ping range.

It's great right up until they throttle you down to sub-dial up speeds because you reached your cap, or you try playing Black Op's and your ping is 300ms.

T-Mobile's execution was brilliant however. In many ways HSPA+ seems to make a lot more sense than Wimax or LTE at this stage.

FWIW, all of the T-mobile "4G" phones I've ran speed tests on were between 1.5-4mb, while the Evo's I've tested normally clock in between 5-11mb

Good point on what your saying with the throttling issue, but my problem lies in the fact that if i have to stand outdoors to use 4g, and at that rate I'd never pass that 2-5 gigbyte ceiling(depending on your plan). In my opinion, your lucky to get good wimax coverage. Where im at in Wichita, KS, T-Mobile 4g is amazingly fast. They only have 1 wimax tower here and its by the airport.....not close my house unfortunately. It is however, very close to my work, I'd say within 2 miles. I get 4g speeds of 2-4, sometimes 5 mbs, but the minute i step into the building its gone.

I've been with Sprint for 9 years, and am seriously thinking about jumping to Tmob before the ATT merger happens. Faster data (for my location at least) comparable plans, but most important, a device i am early waiting to get....the HTC Sensation. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to have the EVO3D, but with no release date in sight makes me lean the other way

Found this ad for the EVO 3D on XDA today. Seems that at least a release date is imminent. Still remaining optimistic for early June.

Does the fact that instead of this summer they now say coming soon, mean that it should release in June for sure?

I mean, I thought that the phone would definitely come out in June because:
1. The blockbuster 3D app had a days countdown to availability and it would end in very early June (2,3, or 4, I forgot)
2. Accessories for the phone are ready to be released whenever the phone is.
3. BB, RS, and now Sprint are all taking pre orders.
4. The RS add leaked online
5. Recently changed date from "this summer" to "coming soon"
6. HTC Sensation, a Very similar phone, minus the 3D features is coming to T-Mobile by June 8.
7. If a new Moto phone is announced at the event on June 9th, there should definitely at least be a set in stone release date for the 3D before the event, if it's not out already
8. If they want iPhone users (like myself) to get this phone, it should be released before the iPhone 5.
9. All of sprints flagship phones are released in June since 2007. But all of the phones have their date announced in may (much earlier than today's date). This leads me to believe we should get the phone in mid-June. And yes Sprint confirmed the Evo 3D is it's flagship phone this year not some Moto whatever.
10. The Evo's anniversary is coming up soon. And this phone is the basically the Evo 2.

I sure hope so.

ALL of the signs are pointing to June. According to another forum I read (either Android Central or XDA) some of the people who signed up for EVO 3D updates from Sprint got texts saying it's "coming soon". I personally have not received these, although this is a good sign.

The change from "Summer" to "Coming soon" seems to be a good sign.

I'm still hopeful that the fuss over the locked bootloader is really just some vigilante marketing by HTC, but I'm not sure.

As the target date looms, I'm remaining hopeful that Sprint will do a big surprise event or send out emails and drop it within the week a la Apple.

would be funny if someone stole this image and ran with it, claiming to be a legit ad.

And in case people who see this still don't get it, the upper right corner is faked.
LOL I had to do a double take because I thought that I was so excited when I saw it that I missed that little thing in the corner.

Since you're already famous in the blogosphere, I'd watch out; I bet this will appear in blog spam pretty soon! You should edit it and add a release date as well LOL

I definitely have the know-how to photoshop a really-realistic-looking ad or whatnot that could stir up a big hornet's nest. But pretty sure I don't want to be universally hated by Android fans... kinda like that guy that announced that he had the Moto keys for unlocking the bootloader and then said "just kidding" the next day.

If that image above does get stolen and used for nefarious reasons, I'll point out real quick that I made it clear it was fake at the time of posting. In other words, the mal-intent didn't originate from me :) It was just art!

And yeah, the idea was to make it look like the "Now with 50% more raisins!" kinda label.

I hope the screen is better than the sensation; the engadget review made the screen sound like a very low quality tnt screen.
I've also heard people who have had reservations about the screens on these two phones from first hand accounts. I definitely won't be buying an Evo3D until I've at least seen it in-person. I'm paranoid like that though lol... I'm sure it's fine.
