[Q] Finding the economical ANDROID Cellphone

Hi Guys
I am quite old with Smart phone ( I am now using a SE P990i). I have done many thing with my 4-year old P990i and now I want to change the new cell phone
Absolutely, I prefer ANDROID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My preferred tasks the new phone should perform well are as follow:
- Long baterry life for listerning music ( I use to listen music everyday)
- GPS navigation
- Handwriting (it must have touchscreen) to study Chinese
- Good Video Player (very important): Can play DIVX, MP4 etc. with subtitle. I always watch movie on PC (1~3 GB DivX or MP4 or DVDRIP types). I hate to convert these video files. Just want to copy and play it on my new Phone
- Radio
-Can play game like Angry Bird! (but I am not a gamer)
- Not too heavy( because I use to running 2~3km per day. SO I can use it to listen music or radio
=========================
Does anyone can give me suggestion????
My budget is around 350 USD

Thank you very much!!!!!!:)

Thank you, man for the reply
Specifically speaking, it should be, but my budget is limited. I looking Galaxy 3 and LG P500 but those phones are stuck with GPS and cannot play such Video like I have mentioned above.
The Motorola Defy is also Good but its problems with Music Player are so much (cannot control by in-line control buttons on headphone, ) I still don't know whether Defy can play such Video like I mentioned.
Please don't say SE X8 or Galaxy Ace here because their batteries are poor.

Why does everyone person that comes here for phone advice get these responses? Do you want to make new members feel unwelcome? If they don't have any criteria, then I can understand asking what they want out of a cell phone. But this nice person said exactly what he wanted. Then he was still polite to you even after you were somewhat rude to him. So what if he doesn't know all the technical terms (I want at least 2 gigs of ram and dual core processor, blah blah blah). Not every android has great battery life, is not too heavy, and is under $350. I would suggest something on the small side, under 3.7 inches, to fit those three criteria.

One thing I would need to know before making a suggestion, what network are you on?

I like the signature of Steven58, who greeted me in the introduction forum: "Don't be afraid to ask questions. Doing so turns newbies into experienced users."

@Ninja: Really Thank you for your response
Actualy, I am living in Taiwan and I use the normal GSM network here. I just want to buy a phone without any contract.
I am quite interest with the Motorola MB525 Defy by its rigid and performance. Its Android 2.1 is OK for me since I am not the one who buy cell phone and dig in the system. I just need one with durable working, can serve what I need ( learning Chinese, playing NFS Shift and Angry Bird at most, and the most important is Listening music)
I am really willing to buy the Defy now
One last question: Could Defy play the Divx Video or Mp4 file ( its volume is around 1~3 GB). As I said, I also want to watch movie on my device with english Subtitle. I don't want to convert the file, just copy and Play it.

Thank you all for your response!!!!!

@ Ninja: the HTC are such with small battery life. My friend is using HTC Desire and with his normal use The phone last only one day!
@B2L: I already know that, the problem is I don't want to convert DivX movie files from my computer to the phone. Just Copy and Play. I think the phone (from my budget) performance does have limitation to play what type of DivX (resolution or Frame rate etc, I am not clear about those definitions)

I like the Galaxy SL i9003 or Galaxy S because they are both having no problem with DivX or 720p HD. but they re out of my Budget!!!!!

What I need here is anyone with real experience with the watching movie without the convert step!!!!

Otherwise, Please don't advice me to buy Ipod Touch or the New Samsung Galaxy Wify because it is just media player :D
I need a phone-combined function :D
And my budget is around 350 USD

Huwaei IDEOS X6 is also a nice choice .It has 1Ghz processor
Motorola Defy can be upgraded to Froyo I guess
LG Optimus One has DivX/Xvid support .

Lets be clear
What kind of video are you talking about?
Op one/Ace/Defy should be able to handle 480p/640p .

720p, 1080p.I dunno how will they work on those phones.
You will need to convert them using video converters.
And I dont think you will be able to enjoy the full 720p/1080p experience in a 3" screen.

I usually use 480p/640p/720p to gauge my new firmware and sorts .

Honestly on my 667Mhz phone with Summer Player ,720p is still out of reach .

But Defy has A8-Cortex processor ,It may be able to play 720 p videos

You better ask people in the defy forum

@karanpr: What device are you using, I usually watch movie (MKV, Mp4, Avi, etc) with volume around 1~3Gb
I don't know what type of them ( either 480p or 640p) :D Sorry for my stupid about those stuff
How can we check those values?
If the phone can handle those file, I will buy immediately.

LG Optimus One,ZTE Blade,HTC Wildfire S,Samsung Galaxy 3,5,551,Ace,Fit,Gio,Mini/pop , have the same class processor regardless of the processing speed .V6-Vector Floating Point instruction set.

Whereas Defy has a Cortex A8 which has a V7 processor way above all the phones mentioned above.Apart from being better it also supports flash.

By Normal Convention
360p =640 x 360
480p=854x480
640p=Apple videos 960x640
This is not a standard actually .Apple videos are usually known as 640p.
720p=HD 1280x720

There are various permutations and combinations used by rippers to compress and maintain data. Quality Rips can not only save space but also maintain about the same quality.

MKV is a raw format and frankly the V6 phones show some stutter in playing MKV.

Rock Player,Summer Player,Mobo Player ,Vital Player are some video players.
By standard V6 based phones are not able to play Xvid/DivX except for Op One .
These players use the openly available ffmpeg.so to optimize videos for processing .Each player has it's own optimization/implementation. Usually(according to me :) )The first player you install,the following implementation all others will use.
e.e If Rock is my first player ,then even if i install mobo,vital,summer -all four will use ffmpeg.so of Rock.

My phone Samsung Galaxy 551 with Arkas Mod ROM can play

H264
480p- flawlessly
640p- flawlessly
720p- stutters in between

XviD/DivX
352/336/272 (TV quality)-Flawlessly
480p -Flawlessly
720p-Dont have one to test

MKV
480p -Stutters if you use fast forward,occasional frame skips.
720p - Out of question,The video ,subtitles and sound are out of sync.

LG Optimus One is better than my phone due to built in DivX/Xvid codecs . .Plus Optimus One has 512 MB RAM ,CyanogenMod support and a slated Gingerbread update.All phones handle DivX way better than any other codec

Motorola Defy is a V7 processor phone and it will handle Videos better than any V6 based phone .It is in a league apart .However AFAIK motorola has locked bootloaders making customization difficult

If you are talking about 1.37 GB files then those are DivX CD-Rips and it plays well on my phone .:D

This is all done on my Class 4 Sandisk 16 GB SD card .
SO make sure you have SD card more than class 4
