having lots of issues

sounds like a trip back to the Sprint store and showing them a few examples would likely result in them replacing it on the spot.

My GPS worked for about a month. Now all I can get is a lock on a cell tower, and the location of said tower. GPS is an issue with some Shifts. As far as all the other issues, I would believe that since there are so many random problems that Tony^ might be right and you may have hardware issues. There are not too many problems to be reported with this phone software wise (at least there weren't until the update) I would try a factory reset, and if it doesn't help, then take it to Sprint. Sorry I couldn't help more.... these are uncommon issues.

Sounds like you might have installed some 3rd party software that is causing you issues.

Have you considered doing a hard reset back to factory defaults?

If not, I suggest doing that and then if you have not already done so, install the Over the Air Update to the new Gingerbread Operating System.

You should also then delete your Facebook account from the Settings/Accounts menu and then add back in the Facebook for HTC Sense account.

Give it a day or so with no other software other than the stock software to test the waters.

Then, ONE app at a time, giving a day or two in between each app. The day or two inbetween apps, gives you time to uncover an app that might have caused you your problems. If you install a dozen apps in one day, you will never know which one caused you the problem.

The key is to first wipe the phone back to factory defaults and then do the new Gingerbread OS.

Gps status. But my phone will locate the towers without that app. It just won't give my exact location in maps. And nav is effed.

There are some weird quirks about the shift that may be at play here...

In my experience with the evo shift, I have learned that when using navigation you absolutely HAVE to have gps enabled before you even search for a destination. What I usually do is turn on gps, then go into maps and search for my destination, then choose the "get directions" option, then choose "driving directions" (or whatever option you want). With a good gps clearance (outside) I usually get turn by turn directions within a minute or two; when I didnt follow this process the gps would not connect...period, which was very frustrating.

The basic android text messenging app was also an issues for me initially. When I first got the phone I did what every other new android user does and downloaded a task killer. If you have one on your phone DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY. Task killers are very harmful for any android device that is above android 2.1. The moment I deleted the task killer the messaging app stopped "running" in the middle of use. Now, If you are having an issue with timestamps (texts are recieved and sent at random times that are inconsistant with actual time) it is because of issues with the network and roaming (this is a common problem with Sprint for instance). If you download an app called "sms time fix"it will solve this issue.

The stock Facebook app that comes with the shift doesnt have chat installed, check "my apps" in the Market and see if you need to update the app. Otherwise there are other apps that have FB chat integrated.

Unfortuently, I have not heard of anyone else having an issue with phone calls crashing. Again if youre running any apps that "kill" open apps this may be the cause. This problem alone would warrant a trip to the Sprint store.

If you still have any antivirus apps on your phone, delete them as well-they may be causing more problems than providing help. Android doesnt really need antivirus software just yet (this may change) so they are probably just running your cpu unnecessarily.

Probably the best idea woluld be to factory reset your phone. Afterwards make sure all apps are updated from the market and, most importantly, stay away from task killers!

i agree... do a reset to factory settings and update to 2.3, then, load apps slowly.

my husband had the same issues (and more) and was ready to kill the phone

Just remember to save any contacts that you have saved under the "Phone" address book (one mistake I did, because I assumed that all his contacts were saved in his gmail address book).

this sounds very similar to what my shift did when i first bought it. except mine only worked flawlessly for 1 day. i never installed anything at all, and then out of nowhere it went nuts doing almost everything you said in very similar ways. went to sprint store, they looked at it for a whole 7 seconds or so, and said "bad phone, lets get you a new one". no joke, I was in and out of the store in a matter of minutes with a new phone, which has been problem free since. (except the 1 extremely rare glitch I'm getting since updating to gingerbread)

Did you accept the update to Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) this week, and if so, did the problems only start after that?

ok people, read before you write. thats what, 5 people now that have asked if he has the update? he said in the very first paragraph it started before the update, and still exists just the same after the update

Actually, if you carefully parse what he said, it's still technically possible that he kept the phone up to date, "including the Gingerbread update" and that this happens to be the two weeks since he got the phone and the problems started after ALL updates were applied, including Gingerbread.

Having said that, I think you're correct, and it's more likely the problems started before the 2.3.3 update....I just wanted to point out it's still technically possible, given that he did NOT explicitly state the date that his "two week" period started and his sentence was also poorly written with regard to the specific timeline.
