trying out go launcher ex, one question though... are there comparable widgets to the LPP widgets? kind of a deal breaker. i love my calender and facebook friend stream style widgets.

There's an app called colorized widgets that can be bought thar has customizable widgets like lp plus. I haven't tried it yet, but tge screen shots I've seen seem similar. I don't have the website bookmarked on my phone, but I'll post it when I get to my office.

GO Launcher EX for me. It's so much smoother than ADW. Haven't tried LauncherPro though.

Launcher Pro has been a little buggy for me lately. fede has been working on completely changing the UI to be more current, but in the meantime, I've had a lot of force close issues (more noticably when the phone is auto rotating from portrait to landscape or vice-versa). Launcher Pro Plus version gets glowing reviews from me, simply because of the widgets and the customization that can be done with those widgets.

Only reason I haven't switched to Go Launcher Ex is because I didn't really want to have to pay for Colorize Widget app (to have the same functions as LPP) if I didn't need to. But I may just try that out, once the Photon 4G release date has been announced because it'll give me a trial period to see if that is worth the switch.

Which of these Launchers let you use the stock widgets? Any of them? I'm not going to buy Launcher Pro just so I can toggle GPS on/off easier.

None of them. Launcher Pro Plus does have similar looking widgets to HTC Sense UI widgets, which is part of the reason I went ahead and purchased it.

Go Launcher Ex has just recently added widgets to their launcher, but they don't look that great.

How many of these will turn the home screen horizontally when I rotate the phone?

ADW or GO, I cant remember which one messed me up, I grabbed my phone and started getting pissed when I went to take a pic and the phone went to sleep mode...

Turned out that the launcher supports 360 deg rotation.... After I figured out what was going on I was impressed... After my wife called me a dork... lol

I use Go Launcher. Needed a landscaping home screen, and I usually put it on it's kick stand. Use Aircraft pics for wallpaper so portrait doesn't work so good. That was the only thing I was looking for. Now that I have it, I like everything about it, with the exception of mobile data and gps toggles from sense. Would like those back. Beautiful widgets toggles for those 2 things are goofy. A ton of toggle skins though, for the other toggles. Seen toggles mentioned alot, but not BW for them.

New to evo 4g and smartphones period and trying to get info on it. And sorry to just bust in. What is a launcher system? and witch one should i get. I'm a soldier and my phone can out smart me lol so that's why i ask

If you're a soldier and don't have much time for "customization," then using an aftermarket launcher might not be ideal for you.

Right now, if you pick up an EVO just purchased, it is running HTC's launcher, which is called HTC SENSE. HTC Sense UI (User Interface) is basically just a cosmetic front, so that the front pages of the phone look nice. Once you launch an app or program, HTC Sense doesn't necessarily apply anymore.

An aftermarket "Launcher" is basically taking the place of HTC Sense UI (except, Sense UI can't be completely removed from the phone as far as I know - although, not sure if it can be removed when rooting the phone and running a custom ROM). All aftermarket launchers allow you for customize your phone front UI to your needs. Different people have different tastes, so you'll see a lot of people using different launchers.

Hope that explanation helps you more than it confuses you.

Buddy Guy!!!! Awesome!!!! (Sorry off topic, but your screenshot showed you were playing a song by Buddy Guy.) :)

So, question.... How easy or difficult is it to uninstall these launchers if you don't like them?

Thanks,
Steph

As easy as going into manage apps under settings, clearing default for your launcher, hit the home button select set default and hit sense. Then uninstall your other launcher.

I use golauncher, but I ran into a problem making it default, I'm on cyanogenmod 6, and the version I have made adw a system app. Everytime I delete it, when I turn the cell off, and back on, it won't boot up! The first time I put cm6 on, I didn't have that problem, but I reinstalled cm6 (trying to get rid of car/home app screwed my cell), when I reinstalled cm6, all of a sudden adw was a system app! I love go launcher, and don't want to fuddle with adw everytime I start my cell, just to get golauncher running, cant delete it.

I'll put in my 02 cents. I've been running Go Launcher, IMO it has the ultimate customization and is light. For me it is also dead solid and FAST! I've tried them all and keep going back to GoLauncher.

menu > settings > applications > manage applications
then look for HTC Sense. tap it > tap clear defaults > tap force stop

if you've updated with the HTC update, i'm not sure if you can force stop it anymore because i haven't updated (and won't be)
I know this thread is rather old, but just wanted to say "Thank you!" for this. Search brought me here because I was having trouble getting my ADW Launcher to run on the forced Gingerbread update I had yesterday. Thanks for the help! Truly appreciated! :)
