Bill question for other Sprint users

We signed up with Sprint on April 17th. Our first bill lists prorated charges for April 17 -18 and then a second full set of charges under "NEXT MONTH". This was paid on May 5, which should have covered service from April 17 to May 17, right?

The next bill was received on May 21 noting service dates from April 18-May 17.

Doesn't this mean that we paid for May service twice? Or is it common for Sprint to charge up-front for next month's service? This is very confusing, but I wanted to check to see if it is standard practice before contacting them.

You are paying for the upcoming month... always paying one month in advance. When you first get your phone, or add a line, you will be charged pro-rated fees for that month, plus the following month on your first bill... this is why the first bill is always higher than subsequent bills. After that, you should be paying for the upcoming month.
