Help Here We Go Again--Dust :(

Well. I must very unlucky. My HTC Hero suffered from dust under the screen like so many others. Now my 1 week old HTC INC2 has a huge piece of duct under the screen and RIGHT in the center! I could have lived with it if it was in the corners. Is it just HTC or what? I kept it in a case and everything and still the dust bunny has once again attacked. Anyone else with this issue on this phone? I ordered mine online so now I have to wait several days for the replacement :( Maybe I should have just spent the money and got it directly from Verizon so I could have just went to the store :(

At least with the HTC Hero there were three potential causes:

1. Got in during manufacturing and it took a few days to see it
2. Inconsistent seal quality around the glass
3. Getting in through a port. On the Inc2 I would think it would have to be the earpiece speaker or maybe the 3.5mm port

I've been using touch screen phones for the past 5 years, I've never ever gotten a single piece of dust or anything else under the screen, I don't use a case or screen protector. Nor have I heard of anyone either. I work in some places that can be very dirty, and always keep my phone in my pocket.

It seems very ODD that you are having this happen to you. I'm wondering if you just nicked the screen slightly with a key or something else in your pocket and think it's just dust. I dunno

Nope. It is dust or a particle. There are many posts in various phone forums with the same issues and various different phones. So, just because you have never had dust doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I have had touch screens since the first ones came out as well. I am thinking this got in during manufacturing. They are replacing it so I am happy. If you are interested, go to youtube and watch all the how to videos on how to open up phones and remove dust. You see it mostly in the sun and so many people never see it if they are inside most of the time. It happens. Just didn't want it to be me again.

I looked at the otterbox but it seems like it would add some bulk. I am just going to find a rubber stopper to place in the earphone jack in case maybe that is a possible area of a bad seal if it didn't happen at the point of manufacturing. I am zeroing in on that simply due to the position of the particle. I did have the G'zone Commando since I wanted a tough phone, but it had poor reception. I love the INC2 and it is suppose to arrive tomorrow. When I am cycling, I am just going to put it in a ziplock baggie :D

My Inc2 has a small cluster of fine dust under the screen fanning out from a point just above the Back softkey over a ~1cm area. It's not near any port, but must be a defective seal point; looks like it was blown in somehow. I was doing some minimal drywall sanding in the room, but that shouldn't have gotten inside the sealed area. Maybe that's a good way to test the seals though :)

It's not really visible when the screen is on, but it does look like it's getting worse slowly and could be an issue later, so I just called Amazon (this is within 30 days) and they're sending me a new phone (I'm pretty sure). One day shipping (which isn't really necessary, as this one is fully functional), and they even sent a link to a printable prepaid UPS label for the return. Very good service, if it all works out I'll always look to them first for stuff like this...

Well, my replacement phone has a small speck of dirt in the upper left corner. So I was thinking with me at least it got in during manufacturing. I didnt feel like sending it backagain so I kept it. No more dust has gotten in. I just have a screen protector on and a tpu(?) sleeve.

my droid incredible 2 also has dust under it and its been less than a month! I dont think it was there before...so i def think it has to do with sealing problems. Its really noticeable cuz its covering up the front facing cam, sensor ports and 3 specs are in the bottom of the device...should i replace it? I mean if all of them are like this what is the point?
