hello Everyone!
I'm a new member so please be patient with me if I repeat older threads etc...

I have had my xperia x10 for about a year now.
I absolutely hate it. Am i alone? Reading through the forum I get the impression people are happy with them?

It has a a lot of issues I think.

Touch screen is shit (especially the letter 'l')
camera is awkward and really bad quality
lots and lots of freezing.
Closes down programs
Won't mount to P.c anymore
Volume on calls
Phone unlocks in my pocket all the time... always ends up changing keyboard settings.
Often when i go to write a text message only half the keyboard is visable.
Browser will no longer work on hotmail
Email sync has never worked.

Anyway, i could go on... Some of these i'm sure you have read already.

When I have called up three (phone company) to see what can be done about it, they keep saying i can get it serviced. I don't think there is anything actually wrong/broken with the phone... just it is a bad phone.
I am reluctant to give them my phone to get fixed as this can often take ages... and I need my mobile (no home phone etc...)

Will getting the phone 'serviced' make any differences?
has anyone had any luck getting a free upgrade or anything from Sony?

Any help you have to offer is much appreciated!

p.s Won't be getting a sony phone ever again

p.p.s thank-god for these forums - you get honest feedback and proper help (i haven't heard call waiting music once while asking for help)

I am admittedly a bit of a Sony Ericsson fan boy so maybe not a totally unbiased post here, however my X10 is still going strong and is much improved from the recent 2.3 update. Have you had the opportunity to upgrade yet?

On the keyboard, I will be the first to admit I hate the stock keyboards I always use HTC_IME Mod available from XDA developers website. It is the first thing I look for whenever I get a new phone and my X10, X8 and Neo have all got it on.

With the PC issue, try uninstalling everything to do with Sony Ericsson on your PC and reinstalling both PC Companion and Sony Ericsson Update Service (so if you haven't managed to get the latest update you can use SEUS to get this)

Email sync is fine if you have the correct pop3 settings but you can always try a third party app like K9 or Maildroid, both really good and easy to set up. You can set either up for Hotmail, I use K-9.

I have always like the pictures on my X10 but I only ever view them on phone or PC, dont print them.

On the texting I use Handcent SMS instead of the stock one. In fact that is one of the great things about any droid phone is that you can mod it you preference.

Anyway, hopefully others will chip in with their points. The forums are an amazing resource but you do have to also hold in mind that they are not representative of the entire phone community. For example in 2010 SE shipped 9 million X10's and there is nowhere near that amount of people on here moaning about their handsets. My X10 is not the 'perfect' phone but not entirely sure from looking at the other phone forums on AF that any phone is. You pays your money, you makes your choice and then you use the forums and the Android Market to try and get the device you want.

hey guys,
thanks heaps for your help! really helpful.

Beau420 (lovin the 420) I know, that starting with complaints was a shitty thing to do... just wanted to make sure everyone knew exactly what it was I was unhappy about, so people could offer advice.

Gonna sound struggle-town of me, but what is pop3?

Sounds like rooting is the way to go.

I think I'll get it repaired first though, cos the calls drop out and shit as well.

Rosered, I will defz be getting an andriod phone again - i love being able to play/**** with my phone... been playing pokemon on my phone is awesome! hahaha.

Is there anyway to upgrade the phone so it can deal with multi touch?

thanks heaps again

POP3 is email...an email server type. Delete your account and set it back up again.

Open Email and create a new account (make sure it is the only one)

Incoming POP server
pop3.live.com
Incoming POP mail port
995
Outgoing SMTP server
smtp.live.com
Outgoing SMTP port (primary)
25
Outgoing SMTP port (secondary)
587 (with TLS/SSL Encryption depending on your e‑mail app)
Incoming uses SSL
On (this is required)
Outgoing uses SSL
On (this is required)
Authentication
Password (the password you use to sign in to Hotmail)

There has been multi touch since one of the last 2.1 hotfixes.

Android 2.3 has already been released for the x10 in most countries by most cellular providers.

Use PC Companion to run upgrade. But back everything up before you do. The proper way to upgrade is to backup contacts online by syncing and also backup any files or other stuff you want. Then you are suppose to Reset the phone to factory default by opening Settings (Menu Button) and then go into Privacy (i think) and chose it in there. Then use PC Companion on the computer or SEUS from the Sony website (if it is still there) and see if there are any updates for your phone.

Upgrade.

If not, you may have to download a flashtool and flash to a newer version.

If you have keyboard problems, do you have a case on the phone or a screen cover? That can cause problems with the keyboard as well as the proximity sensor.

You can also do like rosered suggested and install a different keyboard. The IME one is good. There are others as well.

I had a problem with the keyboard once, but it was only under like the first Android 2.1 patches/hotfixes. Then a week later after another upgrade it was fine.

If the phone doesn't mount to the PC, then that isn't good. Fix that. From the phone, reformat the SDCard if it comes to that. If unmounting the card from the phone doesn't help, that might be the quickest solution.

If programs are force closing and programs are loading slwo, try out a task manager app. Like Task Manager. Close all apps. It will reload the essential ones. Check the Task Manager again...and take a look a few minutes later after just letting the phone rest. If there are any apps in there that shouldn't be...like games or an app that doesn't need to be running but is....remove that app.

There are poorly written apps, and you might even have one installed that is causing problems all over the place.
