Who has an official 2.3.4 firmware update via Kies?

Bought mine unlocked form Play a couple of months after it came out. Is there any reasons mine wont update while yours does?

No idea. It says here CSC:KH2(XEU) here. It did take about 45 mins to update it. Partly because I was backuping 8 gb of data, and the main reason is the download from samsung is slow. Like 300K download. I have 1 mb line and it didn't even max the line. I also noticed that when I watch flash videos online in full screen (maximized) from BBC website with the flash icon in the taskbar, the download stop altogether. Normal non-full screen is does not affect the firmware download.

Now I'm using WMP to sync all my music and videos back to the SGS2. Painless process but wmp does take some time converting the videos (no idea what format it converts to) for the sgs2

This topic was opened specifically for discussion of updates (or the lack of them) via the officially-sanctioned method using Kies. As such any accusations of "crying", "bleating", "whining" or similar are bang out of order and will be viewed as personal attacks.

It doesn't matter how easy or risk-free Odin is considered, the plain fact is that it's not the official update method so many owners are not comfortable using it. That's their prerogative and is perfectly valid. Please confine discussion of non-Kies updates to the relevant topics.

I have an update available but it doesn't work. It gets to the downloading firmware screen after the back up but then Kies loses the connection to the phone, and the process starts all over again.

edit:

I reinstalled Kies - same issue
I then done the connection troubleshooting from tools. This reinstalled the drivers. I then tried again and it worked to a degree.
The next issue was that the phone rebooted and had the bootup 'S' logo stuck on screen. I waited but nothing happened.
I then held the power button for 5 odd seconds to force it to turn off. I turned it back on and all was well including the update to 2.3.4

Updated this morning. My carrier is O2 but my phone is unlocked and I updated with Kies just now.

I'm looking forward to seeing the differences.

I already like the fact that when you connect it outside of using development mode, you can still access your phone.

Current Version: PDA:KI4/Phone:KI1/CSC:KH2 (XEU)

...whatever that means.

I'm well behind on flashing / firmware versions.
Seemed to be an almost weekly event on my SGS, but since having my SGSII - kinda lost interest, as the SGSII was so goog out of the box.
Just plugged into KIES to see whats happening, told me to upgrade KIES software, and then upgrade my phone.
Let KIES do its upgrade, plugged the phone back in and got presented with:-
CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION :
PDA:KF3 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
LATEST FIRMWARE VERSION :
PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KH2 (XEU)
Just gonna charge my battery up, then see whats what.
On Unrooted, Unbranded generic Gingerbread 2.3.3 at the moment.

"Unbranded" usually means a generic (stock) firmware with an "XEU" CSC. Any other CSC indicates that it's network or supplier-specific e.g. ORA (Orange) or CPW (Carphone Warehouse).

Yes Slug, am well aware what unbranded means - was just re-iterating that most suppliers in the UK retail sector - especially high street stores, do not sell unbranded phones, but more supplier specific, as per the post of getting a phone @ phones4u that although the handset may take any simcard it will usually have network or retailer firmware rather than global generic

Anyone having trouble with Polaris force closing when trying to open excel files after update.
I need this for work so rather snapped off about it so if anyone has a fix it would be most appriciated

I just tried it, and Yes, Polaris force closed on me as well, when trying to open Excel files !!

Has anyone got any ideas on why this is happening ?

And last glance, Phones 4U didn't do unbranded phones

but IF they do, they themselves will test and release the firmware when they see fit, not Samsung

As an ex phones 4u employee, and as someone who bought his SGS2 from P4u i can promise you that they *only* sell unbranded phones, the only exception to this is if the box your phone came in has a network provider box instead of say a Samsung box. Alot/most of the pay as you go phones are branded, most contract ones aren't unless in a branded box as mentioned.
The main reason they do this is for stock, if they carry a phone on 5 networks, as the sales die off of a certain phone they have to stock 2 of every network, if they carry GSM phones, they only have to carry 2/3 then just put the right sim card in there.

I'd like to try the 2.3.4 firmware but no joy for me! Where are you all getting the latest version of Kies from? I'm in the UK, my phone is from O2 currently running PDA:KF3/PHONE:KE7/CSC:KG2(O2U). 2.0.2.11071_128 is the version of Kies that I have (latest on the Samsung UK website) When I connect my phone it does not tell me that there is any new firmware available. When I check for Kies update from within Kies it tells me that I am running the latest version.
