Root Planning on Root....

I was origionally on the forum with an Origional Droid.

I rooted that and installed the Bugless Beast.

My youngest daughter was 6 hours away, so when my Re-up for a phone came I "upgraded" to an iPhone. Mistake. I hated the dang thing.

Returned it and got the 2 day old Charge.

Now after using my phone quite a bit, I want to change it up and fix the little bugs.

When I did my origional Droid, I had to do everything manually to unlock it for the new ROM.
Rooting that phone wasn't exactly easy, but there were plenty of directions everywhere. The ROMs had great descriptions and a nice list of where to find them.

I can find directions how to do the Root/Unlock but it seems far to easy. Am I missing something here?

I am having a hard time finding ROM's though.

Here's the rooting instructions I found.

Good? Bad? Ugly?

Which ROM's would you guys suggest? I liked the Bugless Beast on my Droid, if that's a point of referance for you.

Thanks guys!

That method was broken by the EE4 update and no longer works.

Here is the Odin method which is quite easy
HOW TO: Flash ROMs with Odin3 v1.82, tailored to GB 2.3.4 - xda-developers

You will need Odin, the Samsung USB drivers, and Clockwork Mod Recovery. All of which have links near the top of the post for download.

As Roms go you have 2 routes to choose from. You can go with a Froyo based ROM or one of the new Gingerbread based ROMs

Here is a nice list of ROMs, kernels, modems, tweaks, and themes

[Guide] RootzWiki *Official* List of Roms / Kernel's / Radios / Tweaks / Themes

Gummy Charged is a very popular ROM with a great team behind it. You can Odin GC1.91 and then use Clockwork to flash the latest release of Gummy to the phone

Humble ROM is based off of Gummy Charge with a very active developer.

Eclipse is a nice ROM that is very stable, but most likely not going to see any updates soon as the developer is currently without a Charge. In my opinion there isnt much he could do to make it better and it was easily my favorite ROM until the Infinity ROM came out.

Infinity ROM is my current favorite. Gingerbread based goodness with no VZW bloat in sight.

Dark Charge TQ is a new ROM that was released about a week ago to much fanfare.

Odin uses MD5 files
Clockwork Mod Recovery (CWM) uses zip files and are flashed through the phone instead of your PC.

While it looks intimidating, once you flash your phone once or twice it becomes pretty easy.
Good luck and have fun :D

I was was freaked out by all the reading but once I took that leap I'm glad I did there are 4 roms I have tried and anything Gummy just did not work for my charge Sorry guys just to many issues Gps issues on one, fc's on another, battery use not correct and so on I tryed Humble 4.0 phone would not boot I was determined to find a rom to work no matter how many I had to try.

Here's how I first rooted my phone you will find everything you need to get started there..

So far I think the best one out there that I am finding and now have installed in my phone is darkchargeTQ below

[ROM] DarkCharge TQ

You have to Use CWR I will tell you the battery drainage issue is gone with this Rom the battery up-time is amazing in this Rom, you wont have a problem I can go all day with heavy usage...

Only problem I am finding on this one is as in gummy the battery use issue. like uptime since unplugged does not register right... Other then that this is a smooth, no fc and stable Rom..

Enjoy if you go that way

All the ROMs you Need are here
