Help Dumping MT for new VM phone?

Is anyone planning on dumping their Motorola Triumph for one of the new VM phones? (The LG Slider or HTC Wildfire) If so why or why not? I have been pondering doing this. Push me of the fence one way or the other!

definetly not. Rooted and with miui, this phone has a bigger screen and works very very well. Even if they are slightly better (which I doubt) I will not switch because of the developer support already for this phone. With those, any problems that VM wont fix will have to wait for a developer, and as we know, they have lives too, so it will take a while. I would reccommend waiting for reviews and make sure any are even close to worth it. I am really intrigued by the slide because of the keyboard, and my V was such a good phone too. I wont even consider the wildfire though.

In the end its all up to personal opinion. I am stuck on these big screens, and right now I could not go backwards, but thats just me.

Both of those phone's hardware is not as good as the triumph. I'm telling you guys, the cpu and gpu(Snapdragon SoC) that the triumph has is one of the best single core 1.0ghz chips qualcomm has made. That is why we can oc up to 2ghz!!(Trust me I have a kernel built that will do 2ghz thanks to DooMLoRD, Napstar, and FXP). The slider has an 800mhz processor like the Intercept but I believe it has a gpu also. It will be a step above the Optimus V. The wildfire has a 600mhz processor and it has HTC sense on it(I guess HTC wouldnt comply with VM's no manufacturer ui statement they made lol!!) which I don't like. They both may have Gingerbread, but since they have gingerbread on it, this may push VM to want to make a Gingerbread update for the Triumph. Regardless the Triumph out performs all of these phones even with its software and gps issues!

here is a quote from the Engadget review of the optimus black

"The single-core 1GHz chip at its heart may be sucking down a lot of power, but its output was meager by modern standards and benchmarks. In Quadrant, we typically got between 1,100 and 1,300" thats half the MT's score.

Hmm that's good to know, but still it has a 2mp front facing camera compared to .3 and has a Nova screen and better battery. I guess we'll just wait and see if it even comes to vm...

I've thought about dumping my Triumph. The Bluetooth disconnects and 3G data disconnects are pretty annoying, but I'm seeing evidence in other forums that a software update is "pending." (Motorola's own owner's forum has had some promising discussions.) Nobody's offering a timeline, and the people that seem to be most "in the know" are only acknowledging that Motorola is aware of the issues and is working on an update. Some non-US-market versions of this same phone already have a Gingerbread update, so that's probably what's in the works for us. In the meantime, we wait....

I had thought about buying an Optimus Slider or HTC Wildfire S as a temporary measure, and then selling it on E-bay once the Triumph gets a software update that works, but I can live with the bugs for a while. For now, my phone continues to work as a phone, and hasn't ever left me without some ability to communicate. I can usually find a wifi signal for those times that 3G data SHOULD work and doesn't, and I do like the screen real-estate of the Triumph.

I'll keep my Triumph for now, but I certainly can't recommend it to anybody until these problems get worked out.

Bumping an old thread. I'm in the same situation as the OP. Just wondering if there's been any news on a software update for the MT? Like one of the posters said on here, the Bluetooth and 3G disconnects are kind of killing it for me, and I'm seriously considering getting the Wildfire S, even though it is a bit mediocre. I don't intend to make this my phone for the long term however; I'm strapped for cash right now since I'm in grad school. I'll likely get the Galaxy SII or the Nexus once I start working full time.

if your strapped for cash and want the phone to work. rooting and installing CM7 or MIUI is the fastest cheapest way to make the MT a great phone.

best of all. its totally free.

better than a hundred or more for a new phone that will perform way less and hardly be as future proof.

I was just scanning through the Optimus Slider subforum. It's just funny the issues that are posted. A lot of the complaints sounds like the same as stuff that's posted here about the MT-- battery life, signals and connections, etc. And looking at the crap that they have to go through to root and install cwm... sheesh! I'll stick with the MT and be very happy about it.

I think low end android phones have become the new "feature phone" and to go to one from a device like the triumph or something better, is truly a step down.

this fact is re-enforced when you realized most of the popular apps are made for the more powerful phones and the low end devices can only support a small number of features the big phones can.

I really didnt want to believe this when I owned my OV, but it always felt like it since I came from a Galaxy S. and going back to a phone like the triumph just drove the point home.

I used the Optimus slider for about a month just to try VM services. The Optimus slider is just way to small a device. Especially if your coming from a high end smartphone on another carrier. The triumph screen size alone makes it a better choice than any Optimus. if they increase the size, then that's another argument for another day.

Heck no I would not. Especially with the great deal I got on it on cyber Monday for $120 which was $30 less than my OV. After playing around with it for a week and noticing all the bugs it had I was planning on going back to my awesome OV and selling the Triumph for a profit. One day I decided to root it for the heck of it but after rooting and installing a custom rom I fell in love with it.

On a side note, would anyone like to purchase a rooted OV in great condition? :p

I would...if they released a better phone, and I had the money (which I currently do not).
Otherwise, no. I'm coming from an Intercept, and was drooling when I saw that released.
I'd just been a week-old customer of VM and had literally just gotten used to the LG Rumor Touch (Yes, really). I ran, returned the Touch, bought and Intercept and was happy...until they released the Optimus. Which was nice, but I like my keyboard.

Then they released the Triumph, and banging of my head onto a desk was heard throughout the land.

I do agree that low-end Android phones will be the new "feature phones" until smartphones become so damned cheap we'll be carrying around ludicrously fast phones that could double as computers with a dock. Oh, wait....

I will not be dumping my rooted, CM7-TG-reloaded MT for a phone until they release a new one that I can afford at that point. I love my MT. As for VM service-I live in a major city where service is amazing. For the price, I can't complain a bit.

Please I had the Rumor Touch for a few months then the Intercept came out and I didn't buy, but I kept wanting to and wanting to until... The OV came out and got that like a few days after release and I loved it... It was cheaper and better than the intercept. Then my rumor touch bricked... (long story... Not really but still), but it didn't matter lol. Then the MT came out and I got that when I got a job and had money for it! :D story of my life lol

You're 100 percent right I will stick to my 25 dollar plan and have all the features of the big boys offer on my mt empty
Of course the big boys, Ver,att have better phones but I doubt you can beat the price of the service or the 2 year contract they will want you to sign. No thanks my Triumph does what I need for 25 bucks a month!
