***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I agree with what OTD said, but folks aren't listening, so let me say it a little louder and in a different way.

Verizon CSR know nothing and rumored devices. They are kept as ignorant as we are, in order that there be no leaks.

Now, I tend to look out for the little guy. The Vzw CSR is the little guy on the totem pole, so I'll be looking out for them.

Frankly, I find it shameful that grown ups should waste the time of folks who are line workers and then post mock conversations online here.

I would like this thread and us to be held to a higher standard. The entire internet is watching us. I must say I'm disappointed in the tone those chats took on and further disappointed that the convo continued after OTD shut it down.

I feel so strongly about this that I am going not only delete further mock VZW conversation pastes and discussion but I am going to infract them for ignoring mods.

MODS: Please treat such topics strongly going forward. Thank you.

Caveat: If folks to have "real" productive information from any source please do post it. Just don't mock and take advantage of people. Be respectful

I'm going away for a few minutes to calm down.

This is an incorrect perspective. Incomplete, rather. The highest-end phones have parts costs of $175-200. That, however, does not take into account the following:

-The robots/machines used to assemble the phones are not free.
-The people who operate the machines and robots and assemble the phones do not work for free (pause for Foxconn jokes).
-The robots, machines and people need buildings to work in.
-The robots, machines and buildings have to be maintained.
-The people are given benefits, insurance, etc. (pause again)
-There are licensing fees and royalties that go along with the software and other systems in the phone.
-Phones don't sell if no one knows about them, so the manufacturer and carrier have to spend on marketing.
-Phones don't work so good without a network, and it's not going to erect itself....
-The component manufacturers, phone manufacturers and carriers all have R&D costs to make sure that they only have to roll out 2 or 3 bug fixes instead of 9 or 10.
-The phones don't distribute themselves. Forklifts and trucks and warehouses cost money.
-Litigation with Apple ain't cheap.
-And on and on and on.

When you take all the non-component part costs into account, the carrier comes out within spitting distance of breaking even. They do not make $300/phone. When you "rent" that phone for 14 days, you have wasted their time both at the time of purchase and return, plus the phone has to be re-packaged and re-stocked, and it can't (I believe) be sold as new.

And Verizon (or any carrier) does not "force" you to sign a 2-yr. contract to get a "fair" price. They require a financial commitment from you to justify selling the phone to you at a loss. It is not "fair" for them to sell you the phone at a loss. So if you commit, you get the lesser price, if you do not commit, you pay a price that does not result in them losing money. They are, after all, a business, and if there is no profitability, then there is no company, no LTE, no GNex, and we're all stuck in another forum bitching about the reception on our tin can-and-string.

Not saying Verizon (or any other carrier) is not a corporate beast, overflowing with benevolence and transparency, but you gotta acknowledge the whole package.

I'd like to add the engineering costs to design the phone! That is never cheap and it takes a lot of effort of a lot of people.

Good list btw

Walked into the local Verizon store at lunch to see if there was any GNex love going on. Saw promotional material for the Rezound (so that "Z" is apparently VeriZon's fault) but nothing Nexus.

While I was there I stopped to take the temperature of the display Razr out of curiosity as well. The *back* was hot on this one, the display was cool. I thought Kevlar was this terrific insulator? Apparently, the thing's putting a good deal of drain on the battery--it was just sitting there on the Blur launcher. Despite relatively weak eyesight, I could see artifacting around the white characters on the dark background, especially red around the left edge of the letter C. That said, it didn't look too grainy to me--it was more like an old fashioned CRT where one of the color guns doesn't quite line up--but only in very specific instances.

In summary, however, no GNex love yet...at least not at my store.

First of all, the Rezound had an official release date and what happened was ONLY that they shipped some orders ahead of the release day.

Second of all, as soon as they said "we have no Galaxy Nexus," what was to be gained by giving them a bunch of crap about spouting off a bunch of GNex specs to them asking for a phone that meets that description? And then posting online about how they're a bunch of idiots with "facepalm" images like they were stupid for even intimating that another phone in their inventory might meet your requirements?

Coming from the same guy that thinks we have no right to ask Verizon a release date of a phone.

Grain of salt.

Anyone else find the targeted ads somewhat disturbing. I'm browsing over at Corvetteforum and at the bottome are ads for the GNex. Before that, it was solar power (for which I'm getting a system installed, long story) from the company that's doing the install. ...

Woah, you and I must be living a parallel life! (Well, not the Corvette part, but the GNex and Solar part! )

Did you check for accessories? I was going to go to the store today to do so, but got distracted by life.

Unfortunately the chat is blocked at work, so I will be stuck here.

Wow - I thought our filters had a lot blocked - I can get the chat but I wonder if it 's because it's 'hidden' on a phandroid page? (I have NO idea how these things work)

So really, all the geek power in here and nobody can get into the Verizon system and get the real scoop? :p;)

I've thought the same thing but then in the next thought have said to myself "Self, Steven, Early & OTD would be VERY disappointed if we did something like that and I had quite enough of the 'we are very disappointed in your behavior looks' from my parents growing up - don't want the same thing from our mods."
