Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

I was thinking of giving MIUI a try, any sage advice (other than do a nandroid)before I do?
whats the state of it ? is it feature comparable to CM7

Visually - theming wise - its the shiz. I prefer the pull down toggles on MIUI over CM7, but that's just a matter of personal preference I'd think. I like the bevy of themes offered for mixing and matching - I can have one theme applied to the sms interface, another to the notification bar. Functionally, they're both awesome, nothing significant that I use to notice any differences, other than they both allow me to use GPS. I like MIUI's music player.

IF you're a coder there really isn't that much more to do.

The only real "gotcha" is the Wifi/Bluetooth interrupt storm issue. HDMI may simply never happen but realistically -- what else is there?

Yeah, ok, Wifi tethering. Isaac says he has it working and I'm playing with it a bit. I may get it working before I give up. My line is dead but if I get a build that appears to work I'll upload it and github has the sources, so it's not THAT hard to pull it down and build it.

Seriously.... what more is there in this chain of development?

One thing left to do is move the wpa_supplicant file from earlier in the thread into releases. The wpa_supplicant file allows CM7 to connect to hidden APs. I've repackaged your previous release and gave out a link for the updated release and will probably do so again. I did ask you to include that in your releases but I did not get a reply.. ?

That was discussed here (I'm not sure if you're one of the participants): https://github.com/ikarosdev/CM7_Triumph_bug_tracker/issues/24

Since MIUI uses CM code, the prebuilt binary that you're using is no longer being included in new MIUI builds as well. The only reason why it's in my port is because I put it there.

However, there is something you might want to try. In the supplicant configuration file located at /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf, try changing:

Code:
ap_scan=1

to

Code:
ap_scan=2
using the original wpa_supplicant binary that comes with CM7. I've read that this fixes issues with hidden networks.

I mean native ("Wifi Hotspot") with the kernel taking care of it properly. Infrastructure mode and all. Try it and let me know if it works; I get connected on my laptop but can't go anywhere as my service is off since I ported.

Is this using an app, or is it built into the OS? I have been looking through the settings and see nothing for Wifi hotspot, but I can be a bit daft at times.

Thansk for all of the great work TickerGuy!

Just checked in to give an example of why wiping battery stats after flashing a Rom is a good idea. I flashed beta 8 and afterword left my phone charge for about 3 hours after hitting 100% charge. Then booted into recovery, wiped battery stats found under advanced and rebooted the phone. After the CM7 animation my screen now showed 91% and the phone had never been unplugged. The question is now should I let the phone charge and again wipe the battery stats after it hits 100% or just let it power down uninterrupted and then recharge??????

Thanks, but when I do it, there is never a checkmark in the box...it shows the icon in the notification bar (blue bars), but my compouter doesn't detect a network like it does with Barnacle...Am I doing something worng? PEople having luck with this?

**Nevermind, I reinstalled and it worked...

**While my computer can see it, it can't connect. Anyone else having any luck?

Hey guys.. Has anybody upgraded to a newer beta and followed TG's suggestions to FORMAT DATA if coming from previous builds and LOST the GOOGLE account, thus not being able to use Market Place etc? This has happened to me everytime and wind up having to completely FORTMAT SYSTEM and Install fresh..
Is it safe to just upgrade to 0.8 without formatting data? Or a way to ADD GOOGLE account once it has been deleted?

*i did try to add google account when lost it during format data and install of new build but it the option wasn't there*

Thank you in advance.

I did not have to change my MTU. It worked straight up how it was.

Can I retract my last statement? lol. I just checked and changing the MTU is completely unnecessary in order to connect to the hotspot. I guess I just figured I would need to since I had to with barnacle. That, in itself, already makes this ROM better than stock. Now I won't have to go through the process of changing the MTU on every computer I connect to.

You have to flash gapps as well. It is included in the posts from TG on the first page. I just formatted the system and flashed both the newest rom and gapps and everything was as I left it before updating. I think I did have to reenter my account info, but all of my apps and settings were still there.

I haven't formatted /data since the first beta version. If there are issues that were not there before and you did not do a completely fresh install, then I would format /data /system /cache (and dalvik cache). But if there are no issues you don't always have to do it.

People make conclusions to fast, Isaac said there isn't much left to do for MIUI so he making his next update the final build. He also said he is waiting to port CM9 as his next project, but he doesn't know if he will still be developing for the triumph when that time comes...

This is correct. I've been reading up on ICS and I'm researching what things will need to be updated in order for ICS to work correctly on the Triumph. From what I've read, touchscreen/input problems and audio (or lack thereof) seem to be the biggest issues. Input device processing has changed for 4.0 and the current touchscreen driver for our kernel will need to be updated.

Well, I set a new record, at least for me, 28 hrs on one charge, did about an hour GPS, 2-2.5 hrs music, surfing the web.

I was having trouble connecting with the wifi hotspot enabled. On my laptop I opened up the Network and Sharing Center (from Control Panel) and clicked on the AndroidAP link and clicked on Properties. The dialog to identify the network type (Home, Work, Public) popped up. As soon as I selected "Home", it connected fine. I don't know if you need to follow all those steps (some systems might configure it automatically), but that's how it worked for me:D

Wifi hotspot working fine now!

When I turn the WiFi hotspot on it either says "Error" or never shows a check in the box ... it shows the icon in the notification area, but my computer doesn't see the hotspot. I also can't get rid of the icon in the notification area without rebooting,,,

Are you using one of the OC kernels? If so, that's the problem. I've updated mine if you still want to use one.

Very unlikely.

The first reason is that the GPS requires an AMSS version that is not in the CM7 tree. It therefore would require a fairly major merge effort. I made that effort once and then Github lost the commits (!!) I declined to do it again as it took quite a while. By the way those who say that Git doesn't do this (e.g. Torvalds) are full of crap. It most-certainly can and has.

The second reason is that the RIL was modified. This CAN be abstracted out into a separate RIL file (as was done for a few other devices) but someone has to do so.

There are also camera and other changes, including a couple of the network folders. Those would have to be folded in and then pushed up to gerrit.

Doable? Sure, if you want to. The next question is "why", given that CM7 is pretty much done other than maintenance now that ICS is out. So what you have now is pretty close to what you're going to ever have, and there's little benefit to doing it.
