Control DVR from phone

Does anyone or has anyone tried to control their DVR from their phone?

Dish Network can be controlled with its app, as long as the receiver is connected to the internet. They say you have to use their box, but i just hooked up a wireless access point to it and it works OK. Can't watch tv/video on the phone, but all controls work.

These are all good potential options. I've got time warner cable and would like to find a way to set a dvr to record from my phone.

Perhaps the com cast scenario described above is the closest to what I currently have. I'm starting to shop for a new dvr and am collecting feedback that I can use to get me to the result I'm looking for.

Guys,

Would anyone be upset if we moved this to the Android Lounge?

I'm thinking that since its not DX-specific that the Mods would want it to be there.

Any dissent?

Thanks!

fine by me

Sounds good... I went-ahead and moved it...

BTW, just my personal observation: I didn't always like the idea of having a general topic moved to the AL since I wanted the folks that I hung-around with to chime-in and give their opinions, but I understand the need to do so.

I actually didn't know about the Android Lounge for the longest time :)eek:) and never used to visit it.

I think letting a thread "marinate" in the originally posted area for a little bit is okay to let the above happen. But moving it to the AL hopefully get more views and diverse opinions. I think the Moderators do a good job of letting this happen.

Thanks!

I've never been in the Android Lounge - I never deemed myself good enough to even take a peek. I'm always asking questions, and not supplying meaningful input like the rest of you all stars.

Following up on some of your input, I stumbled across an expensive way to control your DVR from your phone. If you haven't already heard of Slingbox already, you buy their box ($158-$179), connect it to your cable box, then download their Sling Player mobile application (for another $29). So about $200 later you have a really neat solution that actually allows you to control your DVR, and then to even view stored content from your DVR onto your phone. It may prove to be pretty useful for me.

I'll mess with the web based interface on Time Warner, and if I get tired of it and feel compelled to spend more money, I'll go with the Slingbox solution.
