Android 2.x on Galaxy

The poor Samsung support on Android has highlighted the importance of the user community. This place especially has been massive for helping me enjoy my phone. HTC has a huge user community with important hackers such as XDA people, cyanagen etc. Not to mention good phones. That is why HTC will definitely be my next phone. I'll be interested to see the difference in the frequency of updates between the Nexus One and the HTC Desire. Essentially the same phone but with different support.

yeah, the HTC Desire has really nice specs and Sense UI but it will only be available in April :( I would rather get the Nexus one now and I'm sure the XDA guys will port the Sense UI soon after the Desire hits the market :) I'm also very tempted to get the Milestone mainly because I would like a hardware keyboard...
But I will probably keep the Galaxy as my secondary phone since it's not worth selling it for ~150 euros

I used to think that Samsung's lack of support for the i7500 was largely due to engineer incompetence. But after seeing the unwired article today, I'm pretty sure its more likely due to engineer resources being reallocated for Bada. If I had known about Bada when I purchased the phone, I would not have bought an Android phone from Samsung.

I did a quick visit to the Samsung stand this afternoon [...] To sum up: I don't trust what he said after he confused the phone . I'll be back at MWC on wednesday, I'll try to ask somebody else.
I thank you for going beyond the online rumours and attempting to get solid info. I realise their stand staff may be janitors, but even they ought to know better than the Internet rumour mill. Kudos to you, and the best of luck in getting face time with a real tech!

... but after reading the rest of the thread, it's clear that nothing is clear. Ugh. I want off this ride! :(

Uao... android 2.0 by the end of february would go beyond any expectation! :)
An android without the eyecandiness of 2.1 (no live wallpapers and 3d gallery) would make happy samsung (so they could push newer devices with 2.1) and all of galaxy users!:p:D

Ahhhh, if only this was true :D

You cannot read or what?
It says 2.1 for Spica and 1.6 for Galaxy...

no problem:) I have to admit i type very slowly trying to don't make too many errors (im not english) :D

The idea of samsung converting our phones to bada is very funny LOL.

At the end (?) of the story SEEMS that samsung italia was right about the 1.6 update and well, i still think a 1.6 update with kernel and drivers opensourced would be good.
What i dont understand is: when a new version is released are sources released too? I know samsung released .27 kernel's sources, who knows what we can expect in the future!
