i just called VZW and said that i saw reports of a midwest region $100 discount for upgrading to a 4G device. i asked if i would be eligible for that discount. the guy put me on hold for about 30 secs, and then came back and said i could use it. i asked him to note my account, and he said he would.

i didn't lie to him, and it looks like i'll get the discount. now, if the Living Social deal can be applied on top of that, i'll get this thing for about 1/2 price - schuuuwiiiiiinggg!!

I would highly recommend going. I can't remember you saying if there is a significant other but if there is find a special reason to go. Unless you're a vegetarian, then it's pointless.
There is a significant other, and I'm much closer to a carnivore than a vegetarian. :D Perhaps it'll be a surprise for her birthday next month. Thanks for the tip. :)

Reply for my $100 3g to 4g discount inquiry

Dear firecracker,

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless via our website, my name is Ashley. I apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry, and I will be happy to assist you with information regarding your upgrade.

We do offer a promotion to receive $100.00 off the price of a 4G device when upgrading from a 3G device; however, certain restrictions do apply. This promotion is available to certain customers who meet the qualifications in select regions. At this time, your account does not qualify for this promotion. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Midwest only! Enjoy your Sun - we need something! ;) :D

Does Cheetara expect Verizon to announce it finally?

She says she has no idea if they will announce, or if it will be a soft launch. She's just hearing that the 15th is confirmed.

give em the Code : CH4GE

Thank you! It worked!! I have a note on my account now, so I'll be picking it up for $149!!!

($50 loyalty discount + $100 promotional discount for midwest region.)

Probably just dealing with some unknowledgeable employees like I always do :/

We've heard of enough other substantiated sources that Thursday is the day, but since it hasn't been told by Verizon to employees yet, the only employees who know are the ones who follow the rumor mill just like us (probably).

I was told by a Verizon rep that the 15th was the date last Friday, but I am a little worried there's not one single leak with a image showing that email or Verizon screenshot.

Just got off the phone with a CSR looking to see if I was eligible for the $100 discount; she found it and told me it was for Chicago area only unfortunately.

However, she did tell me that when I go to upgrade that they will give me a free accessory for my trouble... sweet!

I don't have a problem with calling in to see if I am eligible; previously, they were running a deal for discounted service; I was paying $99.95 before and it knocked it down to $69.95. I never received anything in the mail, but called in anyway and sure enough, I was eligible.

It doesn't hurt to ask!

Out of curiosity, how is everyone going to respond if the 15th comes and goes with no Nexus released / no new news?

Suck it up and keep right on waiting? Or go ballistic and do something crazy (Buy a Razr, switch carriers, etc)?

I, for one, will keep on waiting. But there is a limit to that. If January 1st were to roll around with no release, I'll write the device off and start looking for an alternative ICS phone on VZ. At some point, you have to realize you're buying a device that's been so delayed, it's dated the day you buy it.

Cheetara just texted:

I'm going right now to my boss to tell him I'm taking the day.

Oh Han, if Cheetara weren't married, I'd marry her.

While she (and everybody else) was wrong about the 9th, it is a pleasure to read her retorts and the way her news gives me hope I will have a brand-new phone this week.

Thanks! x100 (at least)

Your comment makes no sense. If it hasn't been told by Verizon to employees then how would we know it's the 15th? Are you saying that the CSR's are setting appointments because they follow our rumor mill that says the 15th? I find that hard to believe.

Our loyalty discount applies too? This is going to be cheaper than my HTC Incredible LOL

It's possible that Verizon said told all of its employees if they even dare leak a picture of ANYTHING they would be fired immediately. Perhaps they don't want this date to leak like the 9th date, just in case they have to push it back again.

AT&T service is solid on the Note (seems better than the GSM GNex actually).

I didn't think I could live with the giant phone at first (you really will spend the first few day staring at it going, man that phone is HUGE!). But at the end of the first week, I was absolutely loving it and the phone just didn't seem all that big to me. Screen is way brighter than the GNex, battery runs forever, and the call quality was great. Everything about the device is super fast. Very curious to see how ICS runs on it.

A toss-up whether I'd pick the GSM GNex or the Note when it comes to international travel. The big screen is very attractive and makes a compelling case of potentially even leaving my tablet at home.

Let me know how it goes with yours!

Thanks! Will do.

Rezound for sure first thing Thursday morning. (unless there is an official date)

And if you're eligible for an upgrade you get $30 off, and a mail-in rebate for $50 means you'll get this thing for $70! :O

Guys, what is your final verdict on the camera? This is my only remaining question. I had always been satisfied by my 8 MP Sony camera that recently kicked the bucket, I'm nervous about "downgrading" to 5 MP (if I choose to only use the SGN camera) (and yes, I know pixels aren't everything, but I'm not sure what else there is to measure picture quality).

Would you humor me and answer a question?

If you were going to Europe for six months, would you be satisfied using the SGN's camera for all your touristy make-memories-in-pictures-to-last-a-lifetime needs? Or would you supplement your SGN with a dedicated camera with more pixels, or better photographic ability as measured by some other metric (despite the drawback of having to carry multiple devices in foreign countries)?

Again - thank you to everyone who has helped talk me through this decision

If I was going to Europe for six months I would want a DSLR. Even an entry level one will blow away a phone camera.

Excellent, I will start to research DSLR's.
