Help NHL Gamecenter works on Nexus?

No no no no no. Go Avs! :)

Wow a fellow Avs fan!

I'm also a subscriber to Gamecenter streaming where I largely watch the games on my PS3 but I'm happy to say I watched the flash stream off NHL.com (world juniors) with absolutely no slow downs on my Galaxy Nexus with HDMI.

I'll probably be doing this to save some money, I think it's totally bullcrap that they force you to buy an app if you're a subscriber and paying $25 a month for the service.

The verizon version doesn't work either. You can view scores and whatnot, but none of the non-live videos play, which means that it does not upgrade you to the paid version. You can view live games, but only the three minute preview. I can however confirm all features work fine on the rezound, even the upgrade for LTE customers.

The more apps like this I keep finding that work with everything but the galaxy nexus, the more I find myself considering the rezound instead.

EDIT: Looks like it isn't upgrading properly on the rezound after all. It played a live game for well over five minutes, but on next launch said it requires an upgrade to the Live version of the app to view live games.

What on earth? Isn't the NHL app exclusive to Verizon to begin with? Now there's a separate Verizon version? ? ?

it seems the difference is that it adds some nbc content, including the on the fly show, which would be amazing.Trying to determine if this can be seen with the free Verizon version, as i already bought the $20 version of this app once and don't plan on having to do so again.

Seems this Verizon version works for some of you with the nexus, at least for highlights, which I'd assume would mean it would work for live games as well. Will be watching this thread for other's feedback.

Working great! I'm watching the Winter Classic on my phone right now.

I was, too. Yet, the original non-Verizon branded flavor of the app continues to float the failboat. I guess at this point it doesn't matter since the VZW one works.

The only difference I've been able to tell (aside from the branding) is the video quality. I was getting HD on the NHL app on my Nexus S. This VZW/NHL version I'm getting crappy SD. I thought there was an option to select your video stream quality, no?

I think that option was removed in the Verizon app unfortunately. It kind of sucks not being able to get full HD, but I am sure Verizon did that to control bandwidth a little. Right now I'm just happy to stream games again and restart my subscription.

I finally got the highlight videos to play. But, it seems no "upgrade" occurred. I can't view any NBC games or anything like that for more than a few minutes before being instructed to subscribe to the Live app. Also, still several other features that don't work.

It appears that this is a rather pointless app for hockey lovers, outside of score updates, without paying $100+ a year.

The highlight videos are the upgrade. The free version doesn't offer this feature normally.

There are really 3 different versions of this app.

Free gives you:
Scores, Schedule, Play-by-Play (text only), News, Stats, Standings, Game Photos, Player Profiles & Favorite Team Selection to Unlock Team Info.

Premium ($9.99) gives you:
All of the above plus Live Streaming of NHL Network

Last night I was trying to get game audio and it did not work. I logged into the vanilla NHL app ( I pay for Gamecenter) and it would force-close trying to listen to audio.

I then launched the VZW version and it did the same thing. I was able to watch the video on the Verizon flavor but I was in the car and wanted to pipe the audio through the stereo which I was not able to do.

I have the VZW version on the Galaxy Nexus ICS 4.02. Force close any time you try to play audio. Video is fine.

Sadly the free live audio was the main reason I wanted this app. Reported to development and to Google.

Why would you guys pay for this content?

Your phone is flash friendly just stream off a site like xxxxxx or xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Get your highlight fix from espn.com or tsn.ca
Just wondering why you would pay for stuff thats free

To me it is about having a better quality video stream. I also like to be able to watch live games on my phone, computer or TV. Sites like the ones you mentioned are also violating copyright laws by playing live streaming games without the leagues permission.

I received an update to the non VZW branded version of NHL GC this morning. Though there are no games at the moment I did successfully play video clips which I was not able to do before. I can't replay game audio so I'll have to wait until games start this evening to see if the app still FC when I try to play audio.

So, the NHL GC app now has the same functionality as the VZW does and maybe more if the audio works.

Yep, I found that too. I will probably keep both versions if the video is a little better on the non-Verizon one. I do like having NHL On the Fly.

I downloaded the Verizon version of the app. I do not subscribe to NHL Gamecenter, but I am able to stream all live games. I thought you had to pay extra for live game streaming. I'm not talking about just the NBC games, I am able to stream every game.

Before I joined Gamecenter I was able to stream a few minutes of each game as a preview. That may be what you are getting right now. If you can watch a full game, then I may be looking to stop paying for this. ;)

That'd be nice for a lot of folks. I stream Gamecenter thru my Roku, hooking up my phone with the MHL adapter and not having a remote control is too awkward so, for me, paying is what I'll continue to do.

Well, now that you mention it. I use Gamecenter on my console and the computer way too much to stop as well. I tend to watch more out of market games on my phone so I tend to think about it more when the discussion of paying comes up.
