Root Radios, Recoveries and HBOOT **UPDATED 4-18-12**

3)install the stock recoveries and let the OTAs install. IMO this is better ,as the OTAs do bring benefits and improvements that you may not ever get with options 1 or 2. it does require you to have rooted with revolutionary,or be running shadowmites permanent hboot,if you rooted old school. that way your s-off hboot is not overwritten during an OTA.

Ok that did clear everything up, thank you. Eventually I will understand all of this, lol. Option 3 sounds like the best solution for me right now, but in the future I will probably mess around with some other roms. One final request, how do I determine which version of the stock recovery to use? I rooted with revolutionary. Thanks again for taking the time to help me.

you can boot to recovery via power/vol down(from powered off state) then select "recovery" with the volume rocker after hboot checks for files(green writing flashed)

if it takes you to a recovery,it should say what it is at the top of the menu. if it doesnt, pay attention to the color, that may help ;)

if it takes you to a triangle with an ! that is the stock recovery. as yeaha suggested the newest clockwork is prolly an acceptable choice. if want to try a different one, just pick the newest version of which ever you want to use. i personally use twrp or amon_ra.

edit:
while your in hboot, tell us if you are revolutionary s-off, or if you have the 1.04.2000 eng hboot.

Thank you for the response

Once I am in the hboot, it says that it is s-off, and the hboot is 6.04.1002. If I click on recovery (after it checks for files), it will display a white screen with the "HTC" in green letters. It remains here indefinitely. If I do the same thing, but hold the volume down after I click recovery, it brings me to the Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4. It is a black background with the words "REVOLUTIONARY' in purple stencil text. The options are purple. Is this the recovery section?

just check your phone in settings/about phone/ and see what the firmware number is. if youre on the official gingerbread OTA,it will be 2.11.605.5. just choose the stock recovery that matches that. :)

correct, this is the recovery section. in the future when you need to reflash a custom recovery, you will want to use the newest clockwork(5.0.2.1) for the least hassle. it should restore backups that you make with 4.0.1.4 :)

I'd probably hold off on option three for the 0.9 update. Lol
It patches the revolutionary exploit.

So, what I am going to want to do is run the clockwork(5.0.2.1) recovery then, by placing it into the root of the sd folder, and allowing hboot to run it. Is this the only recovery I run (I know it is a dumb question, but I have to ask it)?

Also, it appears the new OTA update failed to update, the little blue android with the ! mark appeared this morning :(

Are there any benefits if I install they latest radio (minor OTA GB)? I am running 5GB radio. Everything seems to be running just fine, however sometimes my 4G signal is kind of weak.

it could give you a stronger/faster signal,it could give you a more stable signal. or it could not be any different

there are alot of factors at work for what radios work the best on what phones in what locations, best thing to do is try it yourself and see,you can always change back if its worse.

Got to noticing that the radio in the thread don't quite match the one im running, and wondering what the deal is.
Here is the last two radio numbers in this thread

minor GB OTA 2.11.605.9 1.48.00.0930w 0.01.78.0916w_2

Ok, here is my radio numbers.
1.48.00.0930w_3,3.0.01.78.0916w_3

Is there a reason why my numbers don't match?

Yours are correct. 916w_3. I think the 2 is a typo. We aren't talking about the Puerto Rico(or Philippines) radio, right?

correct. the 2.11.605.9 radio is the one were talking about(minor gingerbread OTA). looks like the 2 is a typo, changed OP accordingly. :)
if I could get a mirror to the latest radios from the minor gb ota I would appreciate it! :D

PG05IMG(2.11.605.9-radio).zip

im working on the rest, but the radios are a mess. i have the GB ones that i pulled from RUUs,and then i have a bunch of unlabled PG05IMG's that id downloaded to check the md5s for worm.

ill have to go thru and check md5s and figure out whats what,or go ahead and pull them out of the RUUs myself. bear with me... guys,in the mean time if you need something thats not there, just post :)
